Act 2:12
And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this?
Act 2:13
Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.
So these OTHERS would have been visitors from the SAME AREAS as those who heard their own languages, yet thought the believers were amethousia (drunk). If they were speaking in actual languages; why would they be thought to be drunken?
The greater miracle to me is that the visitors were enabled to hear/understand what the believers were saying in their own language even if the believers were actually speaking in a prayer language or heavenly tongue.
It's either that or 15 languages spoken all at once by the believers in the same place.
You can read those books, and see direct quotes from their own lips, as they speak heresy!Yeah, well, you're spewing misinformation about their "heresy," so how are you any better than they?
IF one has still today the gift of tongues, would be a real language, not angelic gibberish, not a personal prayer language, but one to use for the local assembly, if someone there gifted to interpret it!Did the foreigners hear a voice in their heads automatically translating a heavenly tongue, or did they hear the disciples speaking in their own languages? Scriptures tell us plainly what the foreigners heard:
Acts 2:6 "And when this sound occurred, the crowd came together, and were bewildered because each one of them was hearing them speak in his own language."
It was the disciples who were speaking their languages, not a voice in their heads.
If that's not proof enough then look at verse 4. It says:
"they began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them".
The Greek word for tongues is glossa and any lexicon will tell you one of the meanings is 'languages'. The same word that appears in v11:
Acts 2:11 "Cretans and Arabs—we hear them in our own tongues speaking of the mighty deeds of God.”
In v11 the word tongues is clearly referring to human languages. So to say that "tongues" in v4 means a heavenly language would contradict its usage in v11 where it clearly means human languages.
Notice also the plural tongues in verse 4. The disciples spoke in multiple languages, not a single heavenly language.
Verse 4 also us what the Holy Spirit did, and who he did it to - the Holy Spirit enabled the disciples to speak in other tongues (languages). There is no mention of the Spirit falling on the unregenerate crowd and performing a miracle of hearing in their ears. If there was this great miracle of automatic translation in the ears of the crowd Luke would have told us, not remain silent on such an important fact.
So there can be absolutely no doubt that the disciples spoke in foreign human languages.
When they spoke in tongues there were thousands of foreigners present. They were not in a room inside a house. It could only have been in the grounds of the Temple Courts where thousands of Jewish pilgrims had gathered for the Feast of Pentecost.
I was a teaching Elder in the AOG before becoming a reformed Baptist, and cann assure you that many Charismatics are indeed saved, and want to experience the blessings of God, and are more scripture balanced than the WoF fridge is!Im wanting to hear answers to my questions but alas there are none. Therefore i will keep following God rather than man.
So these OTHERS would have been visitors from the SAME AREAS as those who heard their own languages, yet thought the believers were amethousia (drunk). If they were speaking in actual languages; why would they be thought to be drunken?
especially when it comes to speaking in an [unknown] heavenly tongue (prayer and/or praise--speaking and singing) ...
1 Corinthians 14:2
2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. (KJV)
2 for he who is speaking in an unknown tongue -- to men he doth not speak, but to God, for no one doth hearken, and in spirit he doth speak secrets; (YLT)
1 Corinthians 14:15
15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also. (KJV)
15 What then is it? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray also with the understanding; I will sing psalms with the spirit, and I will sing psalms also with the understanding; (YLT)
The Bible teaches that not all spiritual gifts ceased, but that no Prophets/Apostles are for today, and none have their sign gifts in operation. And how can the Holy Spirit be involved in the WoF Movement, as it holds to heresy, and not what he inspired in the scriptures to us?Thirty-eight pages of proof from the Bible, and the cess. naysayers haven't leaned a thing!
"... each one of them was hearing them speak in his own language."
SM said : It was the disciples who were speaking their languages, not a voice in their heads.
But the Bible does not say the disciples spoke foreign languages, it says the visitors HEARD THEM SPEAK in his own language. It is making the Bible say more than it actually does to say it had to be disciples SPEAKING IN those languages.
Real teachers agree with the scriptures, not force additional and false revelations to be added to them now!You haven't answered my question but you criticise me for not learning anything? Please teach me then. Where are the real teachers and prophets? Which church?
Real teachers read scripture and teach it. They always point to the LOrd, our Teacher who promises to teach us Himself. A real teacher will teach people to grow up and follow the Spirit.Real teachers agree with the scriptures, not force additional and false revelations to be added to them now!
They were shocked to hear Jewish people speaking in non Hebrew languages, and giving them the Gospel also! What did the visitors hear? The disciples speaking or a voice in their heads?
"each one of them was hearing them speak in his own language"
And how can the Holy Spirit be involved in the WoF Movement, as it holds to heresy, and not what he inspired in the scriptures to us?
