Trump will be tempted to drop out, and go on with his life. However, the result of Trump losing the election is very likely jail for him, his family, his friends and many employees of his companies. His sister resigned her judgeship rather than be investigated. This option will not be available for Trump.

To be clear, there will many actions by Trump in the next few months to try to save the election. Troops are likely to be coming home from Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria.

Another deal will be announced with China. More cases will be prosecuted against Obama and the last administration, perhaps even of Biden.

Trump will call the election result fraudulent in any state with mail in balloting (after he casts his mail in ballot).

I don't see him stepping down if the results are close, not until there are many dozens of court cases, and perhaps not even then.

Which can be solved by him resigning the presidency on Jan 19th and having Pence pardon him.

Pence would earn a lot of respect from me if Trump does that and Pence just says, “Nah.”

That would not result in the charges brought against him by the State of New York and others.

Yes, the pre-emptive pardon is a thing.

To be clear, you would respect Pence if he made a deal with Trump and then reneged on it?

It's not clear that even being a sitting President would prevent him being indicted by New York. That would probably be another SCOTUS fight.

Under normal circumstances I would not but Trump has backstabbed so many people in his life it would be karmic justice.

Non-federal crimes will be quite enough. Also, I would suspect that a pardon would make it easier for the courts to release federal documents. After all, no federal cases can be affected.

Pence can only pardon federal crimes, not the cases being pursued by the Manhattan District Attorney against him personally, his company, and his foundation.

They'll wait until he's out of office. Hopefully the statute of limitations will not have expired.

That's another question they would have to answer. If a sitting President can't be indicted while in office, is the statute of limitations tolled until he leaves office.

That would be an obviously fraudulent election and I don't think it wouldn't stand.

What are you talking about? It wouldn't be an election. It would simply be the Presidency becoming vacant and the VP succeeding to office for the rest of the term.

"the result of Trump losing the election is very likely jail for him, his family, his friends and many employees of his companies." Care to try to defend that statement?

Yep, it would show that he's willing and able to make hard decisions to make a positive change for the nation. What we need is assurances that the legal system still works, even when the criminal is a rich old white guy.

Perhaps we should defer to Manhattan DA Cyrus Vance, Jr. He has the goods on the Trump's, and Cuomo would never give them a pardon.
