my review of Undermind....

....its good.

hehe just kidding. What touches me most about this album are the lyrics. Beautiful, espcially a song I heard the ocean sing "access me" is so dang cute, and kind of sad in a way. I haven't heard enough to really have a favorite song. I love "scents and subtle sounds" They look like the Beatles on the cover.

oh yeah, Secret Smile is really beautiful

has anyone watched the short dvd that comes with undermind? its fun, its interesting seeing the guys working on the album
I saw it its really cool. I like when the guy is interviewing Trey, and plays Trey saying "Ya know what I mean" like 10 times in a row! Then the "gunshot/snowslide" that was hilarious. I liked the DVD alot. I love Phish videos of any sort especially when you can see their personalities.

My fav part is when they play the song Undermind, they match the pictures with the lyrics. So when a word comes up, it will usually describe whoever is in the picture. You may habve to see it to know what I mean. But for those who do, its cool  Especially when they land on Fishman hahaha^_^

Seems kinda pointless now, but before the announcement I started writing an outline of an article that I may write regarding the spiritual content of Phish's music. I have a love/hate relationship with Phish (love them musically, hate them spiritually).

The article would cover Mike Gordon's epiphany (when they were playing in a 5-sided room in 1985, Mike felt the room levitate and had a life-changing "epiphany"; this is widely documented), Tom Marshall's mockery of Jesus and casual attitude towards communication with demons (the song "Ghost" deals with his experience), the lyrical content of various songs in relation to violence/death (e.g. "Esther"), spirituality, etc. There are some facts on this subject that would cause your jaw to hit the floor (if the aforementioned doesn't already).

I went to the second night of Deer Creek. Not that I was unaware of what to expect, but it has been several years since I was *immersed* in the tour environment. I had planned an aggressive witnessing program that night, but I was so overwhelmed by it all that I really didn't know what to say, so I never wound up saying much of anything. I really wanted someone to partner with, but that didn't wind up happening. It was sobering to be forcefully reminded of how out of it and lost these people are and how much I wanted to tell all of them about Jesus. I did a lot of silent pleading to God for Him to send more laborers to the harvest.

Just for the record, the performance itself was pretty lame (I didn't go in, but could hear clearly - "Timber Ho!" was the best thing they played all night if that tells you anything). At least they didn't offer a burnt sacrifice to Baal like last time.

So who is going to tell these people on tour about Jesus? Where will they go when Phish tour is over (and actually, most of them have probably gone home since Coventry is sold out and they are strictly enforcing the no ticket, no entry policy)? They are truly like sheep without a shepherd. It's not as extreme as when Jerry died, but all the same pitfalls are present.

I've never heard of the room levitating. Where did you hear that? And whats wrong with, one night while playing music, coming to the conclusion that you want to be a musician? Why is "epiphany" in quotes. Is it something bad?

Tom Marshall's mockery of Jesus and casual attitude towards communication with demons (the song "Ghost" deals with his experience),
I've never ever heard him mock Jesus. And I've heard every Phish song countless times. And why do you think Ghost is about a demon? You are overreacting. I actually thought it was about a guardian angel. It seems like you're looking for the negative meaning.

the lyrical content of various songs in relation to violence/death (e.g. "Esther"),
No offense but after this I cant take you seriously. A little girl drowns. Must all songs be about happy things?

spirituality, etc. There are some facts on this subject that would cause your jaw to hit the floor (if the aforementioned doesn't already).
Lets hear them instead of subjective assertions. Yeah I hate the songs Lifeboy and Bug because of their lyrical content, and I do not listen to them. Tom Marshall is anti-organized religion and sometimes it shows in his lyrics. But he has nothing to do with Phish's music. I dont listen to those 2 songs but I'm not going to say that the band worships the devil, as you say below.

I commend you for that, but what do you mean by "Aggressive witnessing?" Will it be effective? I'd suggest going to them on their terms, as St. Paul did in Athens. (the unknown god part). Maybe talk about how beautiful a certain song is, and how much more beautiful the music in Heaven will be? Start with a common ground like music.

Just for the record, the performance itself was pretty lame (I didn't go in, but could hear clearly - "Timber Ho!" was the best thing they played all night if that tells you anything). At least they didn't offer a burnt sacrifice to Baal like last time.
With an attitude like that I'm surprised you liked any songs.

If you witness to Phish fans dont tell them how Trey sacrifices to Baal, they'll know you're crazy then anything else you say won't hold much merit with them. And don't assume all of them are sheep without a shepherd either. A bunch of my friends are crazy about Jesus and crazy about Phish. The two are not mutually exclusive.

Before you make all of these claims about the band, please give some evidence. Anyone can say anything they want about anyone, and it doesnt mean anything without examples or evidence. Really, your post reminds me of when I read one some crazy website that Trey was plotting some underground al-Qaeda conspiracy. Please give reasons why you think what you do.

Angry Coventry Residents Form C-R-A-P To Protest Phish

POSTED: 9:06 am EDT June 28, 2004

COVENTRY, Vt. -- Phish fans are counting down the days until the jam band's last stand.

In August, the small town of Coventry becomes the biggest city in Vermont, but Coventry residents fear Phish's final show will turn their community upside down.

"We're frustrated that we've been left out of the loop," said resident Len Griffes. "We have no say. I know some people have said the town of Coventry wants this, but the town of Coventry was never given the opportunity to vote on it."

Residents who are not happy with Phish's decision to play a final show before disbanding in their small town have half-jokingly formed a group called Coventry Residents Against Phish, or ****.

"My daughter is going to college Monday or Tuesday after the concert," Griffes said. "We were hoping to get ready for that. Instead, we'll have to deal with the Phish concert."

Organizers promise a well-planned event with new roads and infrastructure to control the crowd.

The gates open in six weeks, but fans are flocking to Coventry now. Many don't have tickets, but they do have determination.

"I'm just trying to scout out the location, see if I can try to figure out what they're doing with it, see what the best places to try to camp will be," said fan Jamie Gammell.

Phish has asked fans without tickets to stay home.

Concert promoters and police hope to have more specifics about security and traffic in the next few weeks.

The gates open Aug. 12 at noon.

the best part of that article, a fan went there almost two months early to "scout out the location" hmmmmmm, ok.... The way I see it, its just for one more night. Sure, its probably going to be crazy, but oh well. what are you gonna do? That town's restuarants are gonna get great business, you know, from all the fans with the munchies. (yeah, i know, lame joke)
