So who's getting their new cd tuesday?
I am I am!!!!
I listened to 3 songs on it and I like it. I think the coolest new one is "The Connection." It sort of reminds me of the Beatles. The lyrics are great, but what I like most about it is just the groove its got, I dont know another way to describe it.
Then there is "A Song I heard the Ocean Sing" This one is really good. Trey uses some crazy sort of distortion that I've never heard before, its sort of Hendrix-esque but not really. And the solo in it is fantastic. Then there is "Scents and Sublte Sounds" I heard this song at a show last summer, and I love it. Except on this album they divided it into the intro and the main body. I like the intro the best. Its got a real mystical sound to it, sort of Asiatic/Middle eastern. And I love that sort of sound. The sample I heard was from the body of the song which IMO is not as good. You can check them out here:
http://buzztone.atlanticrecords.com/phish/

Amy, if you get Live Phish 2 - you are going to love the Harpua > 2001 > Harpua. And the Scent of a Mule which follows. If you dont know Harpua, it is a sort of song/story that Phish performs maybe once or twice a year. All the fans love it. Its about a suburban boy named Jimmy and his cat Poster Nutbag, and some evil old man and his demented dog Harpua. The story's details change all the time, but the main plot pretty much remains the same. The Live Phish 2 Harpua is my personal favorite. Trey always makes some pretty outlandish claims in the Harpua story, and this one doesn't disappoint!

hehe Harpua sounds fun, can't wait to hear it. From your description of it, it kind of sounds like Arlo Guthrie's song "alice's restuarant" the song is like 20 minutes long and tells this crazy story. its great.

oh that's such a lovely song! Allison sounds beautiful, and so does Trey.
Allison sounds great no matter what she sings or who she sings with. I think I found a new user title, I wonder if, "if i could i would" would fit...hehe..

dmbfan - it really depends what youre looking for - Bill Breathes is the best studio album, its much different than A Live One but just as good. They are like 2 species. Apples and Oranges. A Live One is just that - its live.
Basically you will find some of Phishs best studio, scripted, engineered work in Billy Breathes. And some of the best spontaneity in A Live One. Personally if I was gonna choose between the 2, I would pick A Live One since it has more songs :)

Hey Bryce,

Like Trey said it really depends on what kind of sound you are looking for.....Billy Breathes is a gorgeous album, it flows from song to song so well. In that respect it is sort of like Phish's "Dark Side of the Moon." Not as good, but then again nothing is better than the bestr album of all time!!! Billy Breathes is one of a kind. You won't find another Phish album like it. Its one you listen to from start to finish and there is this amazing sense of continuity, although you dont't really know what its about, you know it is about something that you feel connected to, you just can't quite put your finger on it. It is a true work of art. I would go with Billy Breathes simply because its one of a kind, and it is such high quality, its simply amazing. (I dont want to talk it up too much maybe you wont like it!!) With A Live One, its not one of a kind. Phish has put out over 20 live albums. So if you want to listen to live Phish you have so many options. A Live One is excellent, its actually the album that "converted" me from a Phish-hater to an obsessed fan, but it is not one of a kind like Billy Breathes is. My personal suggestion is to get both :).

Hey all,
I just got Phish's new album! Its pretty cool! I havent listened to the whole thing yet but I do like it. "The Connection," especially. And the lyrics in Undermind go perfectly with the music - to cause utter confusion. Here is a review I read which I think is right on the money:

What's important to remember is that Phish is the kind of band whose
hallmark moments don't happen in the studio, but on-stage where they
feel most at home. That said, Undermind continues in the long standing
tradition of almost but not quite capturing the full band on all
cylinders. It's the difference between watching an animal in its
native habitat and in a caged environment; not quite as exciting, but
still a curiosity to respect and observe with interest. Like their
previous endeavors, the band wastes no time settling into familiar
territory, favoring simple song structures and sketches over lengthy
instrumental passages (a trait they've deliberately focused upon since
Hoist nearly a decade ago) . However, Undermind lacks the stylistic
diversity that graced many of their earlier albums; electing a more
cohesive sound and tone throughout. Gone are the up-tempo, peppy jams
and forays into diverse musical waters; replaced by a band whose
members seem to be running on fumes at some points and a full tank of
fuel on others. As always the musicianship remains top-notch; a
testament to the high standards of quality Phish have consistently
maintained over the past two decades. There are moments of typical
Phish brilliance; opening and closing with an (unintentional?) homage
to legendary Beach Boys collaborator Van Dyke Parks. Lyrics of
surrealist imagery that border on haunting at times run rampant and
the album's closing moment ("Grind") leaving an uncomfortable swan
song that is comparable to McCartney's happy accident at the end of
Abbey Road. And while it wasn't publicly confirmed that Undermind was
to be their last album (the band announced mere weeks before its
release that this was to be their last record), shades of the band's
winter could be subtly interpreted by various lyrics on songs
(especially on "Undermind" and "Crowd Control"). And while the album
is still more focused and a much-needed improvement over 2002's Round
Room and their finest since Billy Breathes, Undermind is essentially
the sound of four musicians growing tired of the limits they've
imposed on one another after decades of albums and touring. However,
if this is to be the band's curtain call, fans will find solace in a
long line of live CDs for years to come. (This particular version of
Undermind also includes a bonus DVD with a short film documenting the
process of making the record, a curiosity that will appeal to casual
fans as well as the die hard fanatics.) ~ Rob Theakston, All Music

Well to be honest it showed up on Windows Media player in the "album info" area. Then I followed some links and found a "copy and pasteable" version on AMG. Then I did a little surfing :)

You got about 70MB of space to fill, mate!! ;) THe world's your oyster, I suppose. I'll probably download them tomorrow when I have the time to turn the PC on, connect, download and do something constructive while I wait for my slow dialup to work efficiently. :p
