  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I just read this morning that Pepsi Co is working jointly with a company to use dead baby cells for taste studies. I found myself very upset and disgusted at this news. Pepsi company makes many of my favorite foods and so my choice to boycott them was quick because of God but it will be add to my already heavy Cross.

Some more:
“Shareholders of PepsiCo have filed a resolution with the Securities and Exchange Commission in an effort to force the company to stop contracting with a research firm that uses cells from aborted babies in its process of producing artificial flavor enhancers.”

From this article: Pepsi Getting Heat for Use of Aborted Fetal Cells in Flavor Research

The article goes on to explain that the research firm, Senomyx, is using human embryonic kidney cells taken from an electively aborted baby to produce taste receptors, which they use in testing new, enhanced and more tasty artificial flavors for food and beverages.

I want to throw up. You don’t have to be prolife to realize that this is sick, disgusting, and revolting.

I understand and agree that this is horrible. I don't see how to get around it, other than the way I do it-I try not to buy processed foods unless it's an emergency. So, I bake my own breads and desserts, make my own corned beef, make my own soft drink (root beer and ginger ale are easy, as is lemon-lime soda...), and I can go on and on. Anything I like that's processed, I try to make my own. And surprisingly, it's not very hard to do. About 18 months ago, I bought a 1 1/2 gallon Coors light draft beer tap, and since I don't drink beer, I used the beer to make bread. When it was empty, I had a perfect container for making soda. Alton Brown has a great ginger ale recipe, and it makes a 2-liter bottle, so multiplying it by 6 makes a gallon and a half. That's a lot of soda. You make a syrup with the ginger and sugar and lemon juice, then mix with water and a bit of yeast, then let it sit for two days. After that, you'll never go to store-bought ginger ale. You can substitute lemon & lime juice to make a good 7-up substitute. So you can control what you put in your bodies.

And surprisingly, it really doesn't take a whole lot of additional time out of a busy schedule. Maybe 45 min to make it, and two days to sit.

For corned beef, you just buy the raw beef and brine it for three weeks.

My one downfall is chips-corn chips, potato chips, etc. But Kettle Chips seem to be less processed than others. But you can make your own.

Not tooting my own horn above, but showing how you can boycot crud like the report and still have things you'll love to eat...

"On its website Senomyx explains that its flavor research programs “focus on the discovery and development of savory, sweet and salt flavor ingredients that are intended to allow for the reduction of MSG, sugar and salt in food and beverage products. Using isolated human taste receptors, we created proprietary taste receptor-based assay systems that provide a biochemical or electronic readout when a flavor ingredient interacts with the receptor.”

I hope they'll stop using cells of aborted babies, but I also hope that they will still reduce MSG, sugar and salt in food and drink because getting too much of those is anti-life, too, and it's pretty hard to avoid it. And I don't want them to test this on animals, either. Just reduce it.

I try not to buy processed food, either.

Blech, who drinks that garbage anyway?

I guarantee you that what I drink is baby-free.

Trappist beers and cheeses, traditional Belgian beers, Trappist monks, public assistance
I sure hope that that's not the only thing you're drinking, Mike. Your poor liver! :preach:

Speaking of beer, I had a few excellent Dutch microbrews in this wonderful pub in Amsterdam yesterday. They serve nothing but Dutch microbrews there - beer from every Dutch microbrewery, to be precise. (30 of them on draught, the rest in bottles.) My favourite yesterday was SNAB Pale Ale, yum. (All SNAB beers I've tasted so far are wonderful.)

Yeah, I heard campbell's soups too.

Lord have mercy! This is beyond belief.

However, from reading the article, this remains an unproven allegation, and the true facts need to be clarified.

Is this much ado about the one aborted fetus in the 1970s that they used kidney cells from or is it an ongoing harvest?

If it's the latter, it's dasterdly. If it's the former...well, it exists and is already bought and paid for so it doesn't encourage more abortions, why not use it? We use relics like bone matter from martyred Saints in prayer, that doesn't mean that we're encouraging people to kill religious people so we can get more relics.
