The new Jesus

The article below, called "The New Jesus, and a Love called Tolerance" by Paul Proctor is extensively published on the WWW, but I've not seen it before, but it's a good one. So here it is.

http://www.newswithviews.com/religion/religion13.htm

Have you heard? There's a new Jesus in town and he brings with him a NEW gospel message. It is a message that teaches a permissive kind of love...a love called "tolerance"...a love that hears no evil, sees no evil and frankly never brings evil up for discussion lest the offenders become the offended. Discussing the evil in our world, that is the sinful nature of man, is a risky venture nowadays, especially for any Christian or church seeking to be loved and accepted BY that world. But then that's not really the great commission, is it...that you and I go out into the world and seek its love and acceptance in the name of Jesus? No, the bible assures us that because of Christ the world will hate us. etc. etc.

The question is, is this new Jesus the one which is in your heart? Or is it the real Jesus?

Seems that most people think that the new Jesus is the only Jesus. Well they had better think again. Seems to me that "See no evil, hear no evil (except sin against the eternal law of tolerance)" is a good summary of the (new) Christianity in the present millennium.

Interesting. It's calling the worlds view on life, a "New Jesus", i.e. it's something that is becoming the standard for the new generations ideals, morals, and beliefs, etc etc. It's quite true that Jesus' teachings are being replaced by mans teachings, and they are becoming the norm!
All the more reason for us to preach the word, ey?

I agree but even a bigger problem is that many of our churches have the same view of Jesus as the "New Jesus" and many of them promote that philosophy of life as Godly.

It seems simple enough. Instead of trying to just destroy Christianity, just try and remove the foundation and let it keep it's name. It's scary how I could describe anything, and as long as I use connotation words like "heaven, Jesus, love, mercy" and many are eager to agree. Remember when someone asked Jesus how to gain eternal life? He referred to Jesus as a good teacher. Jesus asked why do you call Me good? Only God is good.

Seems like a strange reply to many. To me He was answering his question quite clearly. The first step to eternal life, is realizing your a sinner. This is precisely what is being removed from Christianity. Beware of the man who comes in the name of God and tells you that you're alright, no worries, everything's fine. The word attributes this kind of advice to false prophets. I'm not saying that we are not to build up in love, I am saying their is a difference between the love of God, and the new "love" that many are trying to put in it's place. God Bless. Bill

My worry is whether our Christians in America are Biblically illiterate or not. I am concerned that their weekly sermon fare stresses overcoming life's problems, a therapeutic emphasis. God knows we need to apply Biblical doctrines to people's needs with compassion and discretion, but if the believers have no firm grasp on those doctrines, we will be of no lasting help to anybody. When was the last time you heard a sermon on the Deity of Christ or one of God's attributes or how the death of Christ deals with our sins so that we can be saved? I'm not being critical and I do appreciate the many good ministries, churches and programs we promote, but are we like a lake that is a mile wide and an inch deep? God bless, al

Even Protor needs to get with the Jesus of the gospels.  Separating out this Jesus from the theological overlay in the texts will be some of hardest work us Christians will ever have to do.

(It's a bit like doing open-hearted surgery on the faith.  Or rather open-heart surgery on western civilization.  The faint of heart and fear of fact need not apply!)
