How come indie f ags go nuts over rap music if it's British or otherwise underground (or something like Ghostface Killa), but they balk if they're forced to listen to Lil' Jon or other mainstream rap music.

Seriously. There is very little difference between the lyrical stylings of MIA or Lady Sovereign and Ciara or Lil' Kim

So. What gives.

Well, often I find the lyrics to be more intelligent when it comes from an underground artist.

I can't say for the brits, though, as I can't enjoy brittish rap.

The Streets are the only british rap I listen to.

I think most people are just sick of the same crunk and bling that's constantly recycled in mainstream American rap. Also, lyrical depth and melody seem to be lacking.

Alright, I've returned. They only had one Roots Manuva disc, and it was $18, so I had to pass on it. I was also disappointed that they were sold out of Man Man albums.

Also check out C-Mone (the BBC Collective site has some tracks worth a listen) and the potty-mouthed Skinnyman. For some reason I've never really been able to get into The Streets.

Speaking of Sung Tongs, I listened to the first couple of tracks of Feels today whilst I was at Tower Records. I think I might like it. Eep.

And also, instead of starting a new thread, I'd like to derail this one a bit with this topic:

The Futureheads = better than Arctic Monkeys, better than Bloc Party, better than The Subways, better than Kaiser Chiefs, better than Kasabian, and perhaps the best British band right now.

My excitement over their sophomore album is something that can not be expressed in words. *DANCES*

I listened to them last week from the link off of Decapolis. In "The Way, the Truth, The Lightning", I really dig the instrumental breakout about 2/3 of the way through. "Sand Houses" and "Shamgar" are fun as well. They all have a Danielson & Half-Handed Cloud feel.
