So I was perusing through Soulseek, and I found someone who had lots of albums from 2006, som eof which I didn't even know were through being recorded.

So, for the past day or so, I've been listening to:

Neko Case - Fox Confessor Brings the Flood
Built To Spill - You In Reverse
Danelson - Ships
The Fiery Furnaces - Bitter Tea
The Flaming Lips - At War with the Mystics
Islands - Return to the Sea
Secret Machines - Ten Silver Drops
Terrestrial Tones (Animal Collective/Black Dice noise sideproject) - Dead Drunk
TV On the Radio - Still untitled album

I also picked up Why?'s Rubber Traits EP. Actually, I've been a little obsessed with alot of Anticon material lately. Obviously, Elephant Eyelash, Oaklandazulasylum, and other Why? EPs have been in rotation, but I've also been listening to some cLOUDDEAD, Sole, Alias, 13 & God, Odd Nosedam, Doseone, and Jel. It's taken me awhile to get into the whole alternative hip-hop scene, but I'm really liking some of the stuff Anticon has to offer.

:yum: So...Phil...can you share music via AIM? :yum:

If some of those albums are on soulseek, I wonder if there are pre-releases out for them. Especially Danielson and Fiery Furnaces and Flaming Lips. I'll have to make a point of looking for them when I go to the record show next sunday...

The Decemberists, the Futureheads, Arctic Monkeys, Metric, Stars, Sleater-Kinney, The Rapture, and of course Radiohead. Because everyone should listen to Radiohead.

I could upload any songs or albums of any of the mentioned artists if you'd like.

I wouldn't mind some Stars.

As for rock, I'd say Radiohead, Modest Mouse, Built to Spill, Neutral Milk Hotel, Ween, Animal Collective (that might be a stretch to call them rock), The Decemberists, and Yo La Tengo.

I think that folk is really where it's at though: Joanna Newsom, Sufjan Stevens, Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Devendra Banhart, Wilco, Andrew Bird, Chase Jedick, Bright Eyes, Elliott Smith, Mason Jennings, The Mountain Goats, etc.

I'm working on uploading some of this stuff I got, but I haven't had much free time (ironically enough, spring break has been far busier than life at school this year).

hopefully this weekend i'll get some of this stuff uploaded on yousendit and then send y'all some links.

You're the man.

Speaking of Spring Break, did you do anything fun?

All that separates me from Atlanta/Fort Lauderdale/West Palm Beach is a project, lab, 3 classes, and a shift of work. Woot woot. :)

Well, my spring break technically started the same night as the Belle & Sebastian/New Pornographers show.

I've been a little under the weather lately, so to be honest, I've spent most of my break working to make a few extra bucks to get me through the rest of the semester, reading (Kierkegaard, Barth, and Anne Lamott to be exact, all very interesting/thoughtprovoking, especially the first two), and writing, which has been great, as I haven't had much time to get all of my ideas for stories and such down on paper. I also met up with some friends, got sushi, and celebrated my birthday with my family.

Nothing too crazy, but a nice change of pace. I've never been a big party type, so I tend to avoid most of the things that make a "real" spring break.

You're in the mid-west, right? How are you getting down south?

In a Volkswagen Passat station wagon. I'm going with a few friends to visit some graduates and the whatnot. Right now, though, all I want to do is sleep.

You haven't been around in forever...good to have you back.

You've probably already listened to a few of these:

M.I.A. -- Arular
Why? -- Elephant Eyelash
Animal Collective -- Feels (particularly "Did You See the Words?", and "Grass")
Ween -- The Mollusk (this isn't remotely new, but more people need to listen to Ween)

Antiarte... don't listen to wasp.

Ween may be ok, and MIA is catchy, but neither the Why? or Animal Collective cds are very interesting.

You need to pick up...
Pattern Is Movement - Stowaway
it came in at the #4 or 5 spot on my top 2005 list, however, as time creeps on I realize it should have been second or tied for first.

I still can't understand how so many people are unimpressed with Elephant Eyelash. I've had it for months and I still listen to it on a pretty much daily basis. It's not like there's much to get; it's a pop record with some hip hop influence, plain and simple. And the lyrics are full of some of the most interesting lyrics I've heard in a long time. Just what is it that makes that album so unlistenable? I can't figure it out.

As far as Animal Collective goes, definitely start with Sung Tongs if you are going to get into them. I think that is probably there strongest record. The first half of Feels is breathtaking though, no matter what The Theory says. Did You See the Words, Grass, and the Purple Bottle were three of my favorite songs of last year.

Ween's the Mollusk is a must-have. I cannot stress enough how strong of a record that is. I can't really describe it, you just have to listen to it.

i can't stand Why?'s pseudo sing-song voice. It was good when combined with cLOUDDEAD's harmonizing, which also had more of a rap delivery... but on Elephant Eyelash it just really really grates me.

The first half of feels is crap, too.
