Long time, no see, Phil. I've only given the Panda Bear one listen. I think it will take some time to sink in.
It's been a while. I'm glad to see the Indie Thread is still intact.

Re: Panda Bear - It's definitely something that grows on you. It took me a few listens before I realized how much I like it. So far Person Pitch and the new Patrick Wolf record (The Magic Position) are the only 2007 records that I have been really impressed with.

oh yeah, they were a big favourite during university days, J Spaceman was doing the rounds again with some solo stuff last summer I seem to recall. Which of the two are you enjoying most?

I have been meaning to listen to some of his other material (Spacemen 3, etc), but so far, I have only heard "Ladies and Gentlemen..." and "Let It Come Down" by Spiritualized (both of which I have been very impressed with).

Upon doing a quick Wikipedia search, I see that he did some collaborative work with Primal Scream. I should check that out at some point - especially if that is XTRMNTR-era Primal Scream.

Oh, and Girl Talk's Night Ripper. This thing is amazing. Biggie rapping over Elton John's "Tiny Dancer", just amazing.
Fantastic Record.

The new Bjork single is out, Earth Intruders. I can't wait for the album.

Joanna Newsom And The Ys Street Band EP will be released the 24th. It's got one new track, "Colleen," and reworks of "Clam, Crab, Cockle, Cowrie" and "Cosmia".

The new Modest Mouse is the shizzle; M.I.A.'s "Bird Flu" is brilliant...and Robyn's "Konichiwa" is too addictive.

I'm resurrecting this thread. It's been too long.

The new Animal Collective record, Strawberry Jam, leaked a few weeks ago. I've been listening to it a lot since then and I think it is possibly their most solid record to date (with the possible exception of Sung Tongs). "Fireworks" might be my favorite AC song ever.

I also recently discovered XTC. I friend of mine who shares my love for Television and the Talking Heads recommended them. So far I have just listened to "Black Sea," but judging solely from that I think they rank up there with the Talking Heads.

I also discovered Amy Diamond. Have any of you heard of her? She is a 14 year old girl from Sweden and she has made two fantastic pop records. I think one of the things that is really compelling about her music is that she sings about both childish and grown-up themes in the same innocent, yet powerful voice. Has anyone else heard of her?

What have you all been listening to?

I actually never listened to their previous stuff, except for the singles and some other songs.
You gotta listen to The Moon And Antarctica in it's entirety, it's absolutely amazing. And this year some great albums have come out, Person Pitch by Panda Bear seems to be on topic since everyone is talking about AC, brings back a nice old Beach Boys vibe. And I love Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga, and the new Stars album In Our Bedroom After The War is really nice. But my favorite might have to be Patrick Wolf's The Magic Position, it's an amazing pop record. Other than that, love the new Joanna Newsom EP (Ys Street Band), Feist's The Reminder, All Of A Sudden I Miss Everyone by Explosions In The Sky, Cryptograms by Deerhunter, and tons more by The Clientele, Modest Mouse, Dan Deacon, Deerhoof, Blitzen Trapper, Battles, The Besnard Lakes, Arctic Monkeys, Arcade Fire, and White Stripes to name some haha.

Never quite liked XTC as much as Television or Talking Heads. Currently I'm listening to Bjork (have rediscovered how great Vespertine is) and Essie Jain. With some James Yorkston and Battles thrown in.

I'm going to the Connect festival next month and the line-up just seems to be getting better and better.

Same here, XTC is good but Television and Talking Heads are better I think. And yes, Vespertine is amazing (although Volta was disappointing). And that is quite a nice lineup there haha, luckily Texas actually gets 2 good festivals haha.

What are folks saying about Klaxons on the other side of the Atlantic? They won this year's Mercury award much to my surprise.
It has been on a number of people's mid-year top-whatever lists. I found the album kind of so-so... unable to live up to the awesome music video for Magick.

Yeah I don't really find the album outstanding although it's a giggle of a listen. Their claim that they're making music 'from the future' is a bit of a stretch, although I haven't seen that Magick video yet. Speaking of videos I love the new Battles video for Tonto
