  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I still prefer Why? to all of the post-cLOUDDEAD anticon material, but Subtle's record will certainly be making my top ten list this year. I'm surprised it hasn't been talked up more -- it's quite good.

Has anyone heard Trompe-L'Oeil by Malajube? I'm really enjoying it (though I have no idea what they are saying since all the lyrics are in French). It's very catchy though. Much more interesting than most other indie rock acts right now.

I don't think I'm going to like the new Modest Mouse album. "Dashboard" sounds like Brock is trying for a Panic at the Disco vibe: http://www.myspace.com/modestmouse

Has anyone heard the new Of Montreal ("Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer")? "The Past is a Grotesque Animal" is absolutely epic.

I just recently got round to listening to Joanna Newsom's new album I got a Christmas. There's some really good stuff on it but it's hard work to listen to it.
She uses some different instrumentation doesn't she? Her voice is meant to be angelic...

seriously, the Kayo Dot album is really darn good.

If you're interested, our local indie store (which is totally incredible, btw) has it for $5. So I wouldn't mind picking it up for you and sending it (with appropriate compensation).

I have it digitally. It's good, though I prefer Maudlin Of The Well.

Anyone here like Minus The Bear?

I'm going to buy the new Andrew Bird album today, and I was thinking about picking that up, too (along with Panda Bear's new one). How is it?
It is back to the more sparse arrangements pre-Great Destroyer but isn't just a rehashing of that sound. there's different instrumentation and slightly more uplighting tone to the songs.

In other news, I found a cool interview with Moby whilst googling for something else. An enjoyable read I found.

The new Panda Bear album is absolutely stunning. Easily one of the best records I've heard so far this year (not that too many stellar records have been released in the past three months). I'm tentatively predicting it will make it into my top five of 2007.

Is anyone here into Spiritualized? I've been listening to Ladies and Gentlemen we are Floating in Space almost exclusively for the past few weeks.

oh yeah, they were a big favourite during university days, J Spaceman was doing the rounds again with some solo stuff last summer I seem to recall. Which of the two are you enjoying most?
