Wind storm yesterday. Does it count that I had to clear all the branches and debri off the driveway and road before my family got home?
WHHOOOOHHOOOOO!

Definitely counts, but I hope the next thing you get to do is fun. You deserve it for the work you've done!

Uh Oh, I haven't exercised as I thought I would! But maybe, with the tornado watch in the area, I might have to run for my life!!!!!
Goodness! Keeping safe is healthy too dear sister! Keep your head low and covered, O.K.?

Since I'm feeling better, I will be back exercising today. I'll do my walk and stretches, but for fun will be going to my daughter's house maybe and take my grandson out to play ball and run around the yard. I may start going to the walking park, I rode by the other day and saw people out walking in the cool, rainy weather.

Hey faithmom, is yoga fun?

Hey faithmom, is yoga fun?
Love Yoga. For me it's one of the high points of my week.

It usually takes about two weeks before you have a clue what you are doing (like aerobics), but if you have a good instructor, they show you different ways to do different poses, according to the level you can handle.

There are different types of Yoga...Piloga and Power Yoga combine things like Pilates and strenth/cardio strategies with it. Great for those who are really ready for it. Vinyassa (which I do), focusses on balance, flexiblity and building core strength. Then there are milder forms purely for relaxation and maintaining flexibility, our Y calls that "gentle" yoga. Those classes are also a really great starting point.

Some Yoga programs are way out there with meditation to acheive "out of body" experiences, etc. It's one of the reasons I go to the Y. Because of my Christian Faith, the way out there stuff doesn't appeal to me, but the Y programming is purely for stress reduction and fitness. So, investigate the philosphy behind the program.

All of them included breathing technique to be sure that the muscle and organs are recieving enough oxygen to perform the motion asked.

They also say that managing stress helps with metabolism. Who knows, but I'll take that too.

Always tell an instructor of Yoga, before class, that you are new, and don't be embarrassed if they help you with positioning, coach you on breathing or show you a modified version of a pose for you. A good instructor should do that so you don't hurt yourself, or become discouraged.

The class I am in has people from in their 20 to in their 80's. Packed. And we all modify poses as needed. So, just know a good Yoga class is never a contest. It is about you as an individual.

I hope that helped!

Still too congested!
Did you know that fitness experts say that anytime your breathing is afffected by an illness, you should avoid heavy cardiovascular and lifting, because it is just too hard for the muscles to get oxygen and can strain you lungs and heart?

Gentle stretching, walking are about all they recommend, if you are up to it. Sometimes when sick, I just go to the Y to use the sauna. I dot eucaliptus oil on a cloth, wet it with water and breath through it when I am in there, to open up my head and chest. (Vix vapor rub works too.) Just be sure to use an old wash cloth that you don't care if it shows oil stains.
