I find it interesting that you call it mass and not worship service.

...for the masses
Meaning large crowd of people, an open service for all comers.
And Evangelical, meaning it is more focused on delivering the Gospel than it is upon worship, although there is some worship and singing involved.

As opposed to the faithful, which is a smaller, more intimate gathering of those who are confirmed to be believers, by invitation.

Ah, my bad.

So, what's your take on some of the more modern explanations for the story of the Exodus?

The History Channel and Discovery, etc. all treat Christianity like Loch Ness or Area 51. It's sad Christians even watch it.

Actually, I watched a 'History Channel' programme last night on the Ten Commandments and found it fascinating. It made a refreshing change from the usual 'anti-Judeo-Christian propaganda' pumped out by the UK terrestrial channels that is often crass or patronising at best and downright hostile at worst.

Scott, I have seen many 'ponder' or persuade that aliens, and NOT God are the real creators and watch over us and use us a testing ground.

The only UFO's are indeed angels, and the possibility of created life elsewhere has nothing to do with God...but 'if' He did create them, they are still creatures He created....

But since God doesnt mention them, I am not concerned with them.

Some have said that the Star the three kings of the orient followed, was actually a UFO. [Because it 'moved'?]

I do not believe they have anything to do with God, because Jesus had shown Himself Resurrected, and by the power of Himself He rose above them...and not by a flying saucer.

In fact, the Angels singing at His birth were flying by their own accord, and not by a flying saucer.

Ppl are just trying to make aliens powerful.

AND yet IF they exist, they also need an instrument to move around.

AND IF they exist, then how is it supposedly they also die...according to the Project?? [forget the name of the project] :D
Something about aliens in the desert. ;)

I agree with your ascertions., and I find it as valid as a three dollar bill that aliens have anything to do with our salvation, or God's plan for us.

Heavenly creatures dont use powered vehicles of any sort that are created as instruments for movement...

They are capable of movement without flying 'cars'. ;)

It seems as though the History Channel is fascinated with the history of Christianity. I have watched several of their documentaries and found them thorough in their empirical researched, even if it was coming from a secualr bias. Recently, however, they ran a show that tries to claim that Judaism/Christianity is based on alien encounters (Episode: UFOs in the Bible). They even had a Presbyterian minister (Barry Downing - dressed up like a Catholic priest, which I found peculiar) who was absolutely convinced that our faith is based on encounters with extraterrestrials. I was wondering if anyone saw this and what your thoughts were.

Here is a link to Downing's book, The Bible and Flying Saucers
I don't know if I've seen that exact show, it does sound familiar. But, I have seen shows on the History channel about this subject. :)

The history Channel is bizarre. They did a show called The Exodus Decoded, which I found excellent, then they show this episode UFOs and the Bible, which I found incredulous.

I thought it was well researched, for a secular piece.
The "Three Wise Men" was much better though.
That one really had my attention.
Imagine there being not one, but two morning stars!
Jupiter (the king) and Venus (lucifer) in the constellation of Ares.
To a persian Zorasterian Magi that would have been almost irresistable.
And it gives a marvelous insight to the two different "sons of the morning" scriptures in the Bible.
Especially since Ares (the ram) was looking upon Jupiter as Venus had dropped low on the horizon beneath the rams feet.

Gives me goosebumps

The point of the show was to disprove any idea that our world was greated by the work of an almighty God, but rather it came into being by completely natural causes, and that our religious structures, intellect, and technology are all gifts of a race of superior interplanetary beings. I.E., religion is just a misunderstanding of alien interference in human social development.
This is where I reveal a little too much about myself.

If you will notice, the concept of "aliens seeding the earth. or aliens visiting, etc . . ." is becoming more and more accepted. I think this could be the area from which the "Great Deception" will come. :sorry:

Where in the bible does it name the Pharaoh of the Exodus?

I've done a keyword search of 14 different version of Exodus and Ramses appears in none of them. Pharaoh is mentioned at least 30 times, but he is never named.

There WAS a Pharaoh named Ahmose I, (who's name in Hebrew means, ironically, brother of Moses) who expelled a group of Semites from Egypt called the Hyksos, who's presence in Egypt was blamed for a series of plagues that nearly identically recall the biblical accountof Exodus. Red water, frogs, insects, pestilence, boils, locusts.
That's interesting. BTW, have you ever watched the show where scientists use "science" to explain the plagues delivered by Moses. They even attempt to explain the "red water."

It was something like a severe Nile flood or something, wasn't it? I haven't seen that show in a while.

Actually, yes. There was a very similar event that happened at Lake Nyos in Cameroon in 1985.

Um . . . I don't think so . . . what is a "serpent seeder?"

What I believe is that the "great falling away" may be a result of more and more people coming to believe that "aliens did seed the earth." Thus, they not God are responsible for humanity on earth. I think that possibly the Great Deception could be some kind of event visible to the whole world, which will further propogate this belief. :o

I think it had something to do with fish getting some kind of disease and dying. But, I'm not sure if it was the massive number of dead fish that colored the water or the disease that they died from.

They attribute it to a volcanic eruption in Santorini, Greece, which triggered siesmic activity in the region (highly plausable).

Ahh, okay. Sorry for making me reveal your secrets. :o

Just google "Serpent Seed". You'll be interested in what comes up. Stimulating reading.

Ah, like I said I hadn't seen the program in a while. They usually show it once a year or so. I did enjoy the exodus one the other day - even though the computer graphics wizardy was a bit too much.
