Salted with fire is probably talking about the dross burning conviction of the Holy Spirit that the whole world experiences. One of the main purposes of the Holy Spirit is to convict the world of sin.

people of the old testament believe everyone goes to sheol. everyone.

this is how it works. God reveals himself to everyone through his creation...

All that does is impress us that there is a Creator and, possibly, that he orders the universe. Contrary to what you wrote here, God "reveals" almost nothing of himself through creation. His existence and power, perhaps.

It does nothing whatsoever to teach us who that is or that he is the God of the Bible, that our eternal destiny depends upon this or that response to the real God, etc.

In short, the wonders of the universe hardly distinguish between Odin and Jehovah and convey nothing at all to us about Christ, although it could be argued that what you are talking about ought to dissuade an atheist from his lack of belief in any supreme being.

You are probably familiar with this scripture that is more specific to believers.

1 Corinthians 3:12-15 NIV
If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13 their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. 14 If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. 15 If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved—even though only as one escaping through the flames.
