By all means, the GOP needs to oust the corporatists and big-gov members from their ranks. More Ted Cruz and Rand Pauls...give Romney to the Democrats.

Ted Cruz? No, thank you. In fact, I would like to see Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, and the rest of the yes-man Trump sycophants either voted out or forced to resign. As far as I am concerned, every single one of them deserves a Day of Reckoning in the next election that will determine their future in Congress. I would fully support removing every single Republican politician who sold out to Trump. I wouldn't have any sympathy for them whatsoever if they are voted out. I would say good riddance and think "Don't let the door hit you on your way out!" I think the sooner the GOP is freed from the clutches of Donald Trump and all the yes-man Republican politicians who sit happily in his pocket, the better.

If the GOP keeps having "Trump supporters" voted into office in 2022, are you considering leaving the Republican party?

I've actually thought about that, but I decided to stick it out and continue to stand up against Trump and the Republican politicians who support him. I'll vote for a Never Trump Republican if it's an option for me in 2022 or I will vote straight Democratic. I will definitely vote Democratic again in the 2024 election if either Trump or one of his yes-men loyalists is the Republican presidential nominee.

What are the core principles of the GOP you want to see championed that the Democratic Party is in opposition to?

That's off topic and this thread isn't about me. I've answered one question and I think that's enough. I don't want to derail the thread or fall down a rabbit hole trying to answer more off topic questions.

I can't speak for Democrats.....but I am opposed to this GOP core value (the only core value apparently...or maybe someone can set me straight?):

Complete loyalty to Trump.

Truth is essential for American government to operate effectively. It now seems republicans in DC are afraid to lose a vote if they admit truth to voters. They follow the trump mob rather than lead them. We're going to have to hold them accountable by voting out those who eschew reality and truth. Politicians have learned how to exploit their voters with words instead of actions. Until voters educate themselves to this fact they will likely continue voting for their preferred letter, not qualifications or respectability. This political nonsense is ripping American families apart. In a way, I wish America declared itself a God fearing nation. I understand the need for tolerance for other religions. But He does destroy nations that do not heed His word. America is certainly mired in sin presently. Many folks say good is bad and bad is good. How long before America tears itself apart? I don't agree with Liz's politics every time, but at least she has courage to stand up for truth. It's astonishing how republicans want to censor a courageous leader. Merely because she shows how foolish the trump sycophants look in reality.

From the Op-Ed by Rep Liz Cheney....how many Republicans here will join her call...or is this merely..."propaganda? "

"For Republicans, the path forward is clear.

First, support the ongoing Justice Department criminal investigations of the Jan. 6 attack. Those investigations must be comprehensive and objective; neither the White House nor any member of Congress should interfere.

Second, we must support a parallel bipartisan review by a commission with subpoena power to seek and find facts; it will describe for all Americans what happened. This is critical to defeat the misinformation and nonsense circulating in the press and on social media. No currently serving member of Congress — with an eye to the upcoming election cycle — should participate. We should appoint former officials, members of the judiciary and other prominent Americans who can be objective, just as we did after the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. The commission should be focused on the Jan. 6 attacks. The Black Lives Matter and antifa violence of last summer was illegal and reprehensible, but it is a different problem with a different solution.

Finally, we Republicans need to stand for genuinely conservative principles, and steer away from the dangerous and anti-democratic Trump cult of personality. In our hearts, we are devoted to the American miracle. We believe in the rule of law, in limited government, in a strong national defense, and in prosperity and opportunity brought by low taxes and fiscally conservative policies.

There is much at stake now, including the ridiculous wokeness of our political rivals, the irrational policies at the border and runaway spending that threatens a return to the catastrophic inflation of the 1970s. Reagan formed a broad coalition from across the political spectrum to return America to sanity, and we need to do the same now. We know how. But this will not happen if Republicans choose to abandon the rule of law and join Trump’s crusade to undermine the foundation of our democracy and reverse the legal outcome of the last election."

Donald Trump. The guy you quoted in your OP.

I thought that was really obvious since the short clip from the site behind a paywall mentioned the man numerous times in three sentences

So long as the GOP continues to treat his every word as holy writ, I fear we'll never hear the last of it.

Perhaps three or four republicans in DC will join her. The rest will follow the mob into fascism or authoritarianism. I wish they wouldn't abandon truth and the reality that trump is completely detrimental to our American republic and a United States. It seems like they will accept any form of government if they can retain power. Our founding fathers warned us we have a republic, but only if we can keep it!

I have NEVER EVER heard a Republican treat his every word as "Holy Writ". Sounds made up - do you have a link showing someone expressing that?

Well the topic is "The GOP is at a turning point" and you're a professed GOP member, so I was hoping to get your insight and opinion on that "point"

What I want the R's to stand for is
-small govt
-limited spending
-the short list of civil liberties they seem to prefer.

Thats because even though I currently vote D, I want an opposition party to make the case for moderation. Someone needs to keep an eye on things and advocate for putting on the brakes sometimes.

But instead of promoting traditional R values, the R's are free for all of big lie Trump cheerleading and flat out insanity. Any moderates in the party who fail to keep their mouth shut get pilloried.

Interesting:

Rule of law - Trump: Will Always Champion 'Unwavering Rule of Law'

Limited Government - President' Trump's limited government

Strong National Defense - Robert O'Brien: Trump has been totally committed to a strong national defense - The Global Herald

opportunity brought by low taxes - IRS Data: Middle Class Americans Saw Biggest Tax Reduction from Trump Tax Cuts

and fiscally conservative policies - too numerous to link.

Do you understand figurative language when it's used?

The growth in the annual deficit under Trump ranks as the third-biggest increase, relative to the size of the economy, of any U.S. presidential administration.

Newsmax is a politically biased conservative news source and a strong supporter of Trump.

WorldNetDaily - politically conservative news and opinion website and online news aggregator.

Americans for Tax Reform is a politically conservative U.S. advocacy group that doesn't have a good track record with honesty. - PolitiFact: Americans for Tax Reform; also see FactCheck.org for details.

and fiscally conservative policies - too numerous to link.

As long as the sources aren't exactly like or similar to the conservative sources already mentioned.
