JohnR7 said:
We can turn our back on God, but He will never, ever turn His back on us. His promise to us is that He will never leave us or forsake us.
Promise Made:
Deuteronomy 31:6
Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor
forsake you."
11 verses later, God already renegs on his promise:
Deuteronomy 31:17
On that day I will become angry with them and
forsake them; I will hide my face from them, and they will be destroyed. Many disasters and difficulties will come upon them, and on that day they will ask, 'Have not these disasters come upon us because our God is not with us?'
Broken again:
2 Kings 21:10-14
10 The LORD said through his servants the prophets: 11 "Manasseh king of Judah has committed these detestable sins. He has done more evil than the Amorites who preceded him and has led Judah into sin with his idols. 12 Therefore this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: I am going to bring such disaster on Jerusalem and Judah that the ears of everyone who hears of it will tingle. 13 I will stretch out over Jerusalem the measuring line used against Samaria and the plumb line used against the house of Ahab. I will wipe out Jerusalem as one wipes a dish, wiping it and turning it upside down. 14 I will forsake the remnant of my inheritance and hand them over to their enemies. They will be looted and plundered by all their foes
A direct contradiction:
2 Chronicles 15:2
He went out to meet Asa and said to him, "Listen to me, Asa and all Judah and Benjamin.
The LORD is with you when you are with him. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will forsake you.
And again in the same book:
2 Chronicles 24:20
Then the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah son of Jehoiada the priest. He stood before the people and said, "This is what God says: 'Why do you disobey the LORD's commands? You will not prosper.
Because you have forsaken the LORD, he has forsaken you.' "
A famous one:
Psalm 22:1
My God, my God, why have you
forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from the words of my groaning?
which is later repeated by Jesus on the cross.
