What, do you think, is the greatest gift of the holy spirit?
The one that is the most appropriate and useful in the situation that the believer is presented with. It is the same with asking a mechanic which of his tools is the greatest. It is the particular tool that best fits the particular job he has to do on the motor vehicle. What, do you think, is the greatest gift of the holy spirit?
1 Cor 12:31 - But earnestly desire the best gifts.I don’t believe one is greater than another.
1 Cor 12:31 - But earnestly desire the best gifts.
1 Cor 14:1 - Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy.

Seriously? The context is the gifts of the Spirit. Straight up.
Love isn't a gift of the Spirit, it is something greater that transcends the gifts. It is the proper motivation for using the gifts.Love. 1 Cor gives a list of what love looks like. Without it, all the others are just a room full of noisemakers.
1 Cor 12:31 - But earnestly desire the best gifts.
1 Cor 14:1 - Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy.
Now you're just twisting the context all up. Paul plainly says in context of the gifts of the Spirit to desire the best gifts, especially prophesy. Yet you would have us believe in the same context that he didn't actually mean what he said plainly.1Cor 14:He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church. 5 I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied; for he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with tongues, unless indeed he interprets, that the church may receive edification.
Prophesy is greater UNLESS he interprets,
That is why context is so very important. The moment tongues has interpretation, prophesy is not greater but equal.

Additionally, tongues and interpretation of tongues are two different gifts, so even if we accept your logic it doesn't make them equal. It makes interpretation and prophecy equal, but still greater than tongues... which I still don't buy.
What you are missing is the difference between value and order.
What is your personal experience level with prophesy and interpretation of tongues anyway? It may help bring some context to the discussion.
