it was some combination of dc Talk, the Newsboys, Geoff Moore & The Distance, Five Iron Frenzy, and Audio Adrenaline.
same here. i think it must have been steven curtis chapman, and then Jars of Clays self titled. (the JOC cd is actually really good... even today it stands up to alot of my other music. The S. C. Chapman on the other hand...)

Probably Mariah Carey, Boyz 2 Men, Michael Jackson, Salt N Peppa and a few other very embarassing albums my mother bought me. At the time I didn't mind them, but my taste in music even back then was pretty diverse. I was really into alternative rock and post-grunge as a kid and I gradually grew to like most genres of metal and classic rock, which we recorded on tape as it came on the radio until we got computers. I also loved 80's rock and pop.

The first albums I bought with my own money:
Nirvana
Silverchair
Bush
Korn
Stabbing Westward

Holy Smokes, all that grown-up music. I guess things have changed.

1. May Poppins Soundtrack on 8-track
2. Some Disney songs collection double LP
3. Star Wars Soundtrack on 8-track
4. Wings, Wings Over America on 8-track
5. Pink Floyd, Another Brick In The Wall (Part 2) single

I think that's the right order.

That Jars of Clay was my first non-sampler CD.
And I agree, it is a great album.

Nitty Gritty Dirt Band - "Dream"
Joni Mitchell - "Ladies of the Canyon"
Stephen Stills - "Turn Back the Pages"
Beatles - "Sgt Pepper"
Queen - "News of the World"

When I was a kid, my sister's boyfriend (now my brother in law) was the manager of the old Record Museum record store in the Deptford Mall. He used to bring me records from the store all the time to ingratiate himself to my sister.

Sometimes they were things I liked, sometimes they were just random.

Those are just the first five that came to my memory.

I haven't got a clue on the first five albums I owned. It probably was something like New Kids on the Block, Guns n' Roses, Young MC, Disney Soundtracks, Harry Connick . . .

I had a wide variety of taste when I was younger, and I am proud to say that my taste in music has only continued to grow to mulitple genres as I have gotten older.

Some of the responses here are absolutely hilarious. I'm sorry, I just find it really hard to believe that some people were actually buying/listening to Queen albums at like, age 12. Not saying that it doesn't happen, it just seems really really odd.

Alright, from what I remember :

1.) John Michael Montgomery - s/t
2.) Hanson - Middle of Nowhere
3.) dc Talk - Jesus Freak
4.) Stroke 9 - Nasty Little Thoughts
5.) Newsboys - Step up to the Microphone
