• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Nope, you just have a terrible inability to post evidence, even though what is and is not evidence has been rather thoroughly explained to you.
People who ignore evidence teaching me what is evidence? LOLWROF!

No, you don't show any evidence. You just go "Look around you!" and then leave it, explaining nothing. Other people actually take the time to provide and explain actual evidence to you and you just ignore it.

Does anyone here know WHY sunflower florets grow in the additive pattern of the Fibonacci sequence?

If there's no good natural reason for it, then yeah, the coincidence would be pretty startling.

(I suspect there IS a good natural reason. Most things turn out that way. But I'm open minded...).
My quandary is why you seem to prefer to divorce a mathematical sequence which occurs repeatedly in unrelated organisms and non-biological circumstances in nature from a mind that is superimposing it. Obviously if plants display the sequence it's because it is programmed into their DNA. Who programmed that sequence into DNA? The response that chemicals did it simply because chemicals chose to do it that mathematically identical way in many different unrelated situations is ludicrous.

The shapes of spiral galaxies, such as Messier 74, and hurricanes, such as Hurricane Irene, follow the Fibonacci sequence.

I'm having computer issues at the moment and therefore it's entirely possible that I'm not seeing the images as they truly are, with their correct dimensions, but with what I can tell measuring by eye and with physical objects (rather than in any kind of image editing software) that galaxy and that cloud formation don't appear to have spirals that map on top of each other. Unless the picture is very distorted, then the spirals in the plant are certainly nothing like the spirals of either the galaxy or the cloud.

If the pictures are accurate, and I'm seeing them accurately, then then all being different from each other necessarily implies that only one at most can map to the Fibonacci sequence.

But, as I say, perhaps this is an artefact of my computer issues. I'll have another look once it's been fixed, and perhaps download them into image editing software to make a proper comparison.

I think you're right; tornadoes and spiral galaxies are the result of the same physical principles (conservation of momentum), but not all spirals are Fibonacci spirals; in the same way, not all spiral shells are Fibonacci spirals.

Reminds me of the old adage, "To a man with a hammer, everything looks like a nail".

So many times in human history we have made "God" the answer to why this or that material circumstance.... only to find that in fact there's a rational material answer.

Now God may well have made the whole thing. But within the whole thing, scientifically accessible answers seem to prevail.

(I was skeptical of the galaxy /storm shape too. Its like you think every spiral is Fibonacci driven. Are they, for a fact? Or are you just imposing your preferred idea onto the event? - you do know there's many ways to define a spiral, right?)

I was thinking of using this panel myself. They also have a fine one on the strawman arguments used against atheists by making a very outrageous strawman argument against Christianity. But it might be viewed as "blasphemy" here, even though the argument was a clear strawman. I can't afford to risk it.

Yes, understood. But SMBC is the most intelligent strip I've yet seen

Right, I've managed to have a bit of a go at the spirals above, although you'll have to forgive the crudeness of the tracing - I've not been able to use my tablet, or use paths, so this is what I could do in a hurry with a trackball.

The first image:

The second:

The spirals isolated and mapped on top of each other (no manipulation, other than mirroring and rotation):

spirals%202.jpg

Mapped on to a Fibonacci spiral:

As you can see, the two which are the most similar are the galaxy and the storm, but they're still not identical. The flower is not even close, and none of them are particularly close to a Fibonacci spiral.

Why, that's OBVIOUSLY a Fibbonacci Spiral! It has to be because of it being proof for creationism.

Here's another spiral created by mysterious natural objects: Africans!
