You are right, in this case my argument would be moot.Place the scenario on a rainless, barren wasteland of an extrasolar planet where nothing ever grows except by the farmer's efforts and your counterargument crumbles.
I'd like to point out though that you are right now standing in a lush green meadow, in the soft spring rain, with a little sunshine comming through now and then... and telling me: "Yeah, but if that was a barren wasteland on a planet without water or a sun, all this would not exist! Take that, unbeliever!"
