  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I am not sure what you mean. There is a Discussion & Debate area that is for Christians only and then a Discussion and Debate for anyone.

Can you link to the page with Political Christians?

My mistake for not making it clear.

I'm confused as to the reasoning behind separating Political Talk (Christians Only) with Discussion and Debate for anyone.

Goes to some history. Some wanted to talk politics within the confines of Christian thought, though that varies quite a bit. The D&D for Christians also includes ethics and creation area. Folks wanted an area where it was not atheist vs. Christian.

I hope it's alright for me to ask my questions here in the Democratic Safe House thread. I also hope this will be a good discussion to encourage more participation from liberal Democrats too. I didn't want to ask these questions in the main political forum because I really don't want to be bombarded with right wing jargon and snide remarks or personal insults. I simply want to discuss the questions, civilly and calmly, and not be drawn into pointless political arguments that go nowhere fast. I thought if I asked my questions in this thread, since it is the Democratic Safe House, that I would be able to avoid being bombarded with the nuasances I just mentioned a few moments ago.

My first question is this: Why do you think some Americans are obsessed (for the lack of a better word) with gun ownership and owning a gun? Personally speaking, I think it's morally wrong when owning a gun is a constitutional right, but having adequate healthcare and an education is a privilege. My second question is: Why do some Americans become emotionally unhinged whenever there's a possibility of a new gun control law? I know several right wing people, who in my opinion are obsessed with gun rights and gun ownership, and each one of these people flip out whenever there's the slightest mention of gun control prohibitions. Some of them start ranting about liberals and how the government will come and take their guns. I don't understand their obsession with wanting to own a gun or the right to own a gun. And my last question is this: Did you know that the UK banned handguns after there was a massarce of school children back in 1996? There have many school shootings in the US, so why hasn't this country followed the UK's example and banned firearms too?

Here are a couple of articles on the school shooting in Dunblane, England.

What the UK and Australia did differently after mass shootings

We banned the guns that killed school children in Dunblane. Here’s how

No School Shootings in the United Kingdom Since Handguns Were Banned?

You have to understand, most of the militias who fought with George Washington used personally owned rifles. So since that was roughly half the military force then like now, you need a well regulated militia. Ok, so what's that got to do with gun rights? Absolutely nothing, we have a well regulated militia it's called the National Guards. I have no problem with responsible gun ownership but try to ban an AR15 and they go spastic, banging the alarm bell. they are coming for our guns.

There is a constitutionally guaranteed right to have guns, I think it's nonsense but that is Constitutional law. There are some 8 million AR15s in the possession of US citizens, most of them are fine. The real issue is when someone like Cruz puts down 130 dollars and walks away with a military assault rifle. It's a shame what the Parkland kids went through but thank God they got involved. Sensible gun control laws have been enacted to great effect, both in the US and abroad. There is simply too much money in gun sales so we are going to have to live with the culture of death that insists the criminal element having access to firearms is acceptable.

And my last question is this: Did you know that the UK banned handguns after there was a massarce of school children back in 1996? There have many school shootings in the US, so why hasn't this country followed the UK's example and banned firearms too?

In short, this isn't the UK. Connecticut after Sandyhook changed their laws and they haven't had the same problem since. Florida had a night club shot up and they did nothing, which gives you Parkland. Your looking for reason here, I'm sorry, the facts are clear and reason is being shouted down. My advice, support the work of the Parkland survivors and say a prayer, because this doesn't end until either the people or God gets involved. You can forget about a Republican controlled Congress, they are doing good to get anything to a vote let alone passed, let alone something that will help.

You can ask questions, but no debate is allowed here - only fellowship.

Also no insulting anyone who can't post here because that's unfair.

I don't want a debate and that's why I posted my questions in this specific thread. I simply want to discuss the questions I asked in a calm manner. I also have no intentions of insulting anyone.
Ok, I just wanted to warn you that there are special rules here. I didn't answer because I'm not a gun person. I'm more than fine with gun control.

My BIL & nephews are avid gun collectors. This is actually a bit concerning because bipolar disorder runs in his family to the point where my BIL has been hospitalized more than once because of it.

I've heard Ted Cruz in particular is worried. Everyone has the seat as an R lock, but his fund raising efforts imply he's not expecting to skate to re-election. I'm wondering what his internals show. I feel like the state party is leaving this one on the table. They didn't even try to recruit talent for this.

Yes, Texas will continue to move to the purple and then blue as Democrats come out to vote in larger numbers. Personally, I have always focused on the 2024 presidential campaign. Until then, the issue should be all about elected congress folk, governors, mayors and state legislators.

IMHO, Cruz is a good enough politician to be re-elected no matter how what happens with Trump.

Good day in AZ today! The RedForEd rally....

The Dem did way better in the election Tuesday night in a very red district because folks are upset about the state of education in AZ.

NO, not the full support of the Christian community. He has the full support of some Christians. Other Christians like me do not support him at all.

From what Guiliani is saying on the news shows, I think they are expecting from Mueller is that Trump obstructed justice and more....and they are trying to get ahead of it and minimize it. Perhaps that is why they are presenting the idea that Trump can pardon himself. The rest is the Nixon argument - 'it's not against the law when the president does it."

Editorial in Elle Magazine re Melanie's jacket on her way to her photo-op with separated immigrant children:
The first lady's spokesperson says it's just a jacket. The president says it was a message to the media. They're like two suspects in different interrogation rooms who can't get their story straight. Meanwhile, your friends online tell you to leave it be because it's a distraction. But I'd argue it's all part of the same idea. If the Trump administration wants us to forget about the atrocities being committed in their names against migrant families and children, turning to the camera and mouthing "We're bad people lol" is not the way.
Congratulations to the Trumps: You Played Yourselves
