Since when? It has allowed liberals of all stripes - otherwise we'd have to start a "Green Safe House" a "Liberal Safe House", a "Working Families Safe House" ad infinitum like the conservatives did.

Or did I miss an upset/invasion?

Lindsey Grahm said Sunday if Republicans fail on tax reform the way they did on health care the result will be big loses in 2018 and 2020. The still haven't finished the budget and deregulation is thankfully a pipe dream. They might have pulled it off if not for the repeal of the estate tax. The GOP is running out of time and Trump is a lame duck.

The only question is whether or not dems can capitalize. Meanwhile the alt right contributed to the upset primary victory in Alabama. Now they are planning to challenge every iRepublican ncumbent on the ballot. A lot can happen in a year but this is turning into a perfect storm for Republicans. We need big wins in 2018 and another Bill Clinton or Obama.

I don't believe that the estate tax affect you and me. The tax effect is tiny. Some of us choose to accumulate money and pass it on to our children. The tax on this money has already been taxed one or twice in the case of dividends. Perhaps all assets should be taxed so that we will encouraged NOT to save for our children.

THERE ARE REAL ISSUES AND STUMBLING BLOCKS
One TRILLION in tax cuts are for businesses (corporate taxes and some small business). $300B of cuts go to personal tax filers, Of the $300B, much goes to the rich especially in the elimination of the Alternative Minimum Tax.

In order to get enough votes in the Senate (including some Democratic votes in red states)
    1) The AMT must stay in place
    2) There must be a limited tax deduction for state and local income taxes.
    3) There must be tax deductions for adoptions and medical care. (what were they thinking?)

If these changes are made (not really major), Republicans will give their blessing, maybe even 50. I also suspect that a couple of Democrats will also vote for this plan. After all, with the changes, almost everyone will get some tax relief.

The folks who are in danger now of increased taxes now are those who itemize because of large deductions for state and local income taxes, medical care and adoption expenses. As Democrats, we must understand that the vast majority of Democrats ITEMIZE and will not be hurt except for rich Democrats in CA. NY. NJ and CT.

I thought that we might discuss Donna Brazile's tactics and revelations. She has been a loyal Democratic leader for 25 years. She colluded with the DNC to support Hillary. She even gave CNN question to Hillary. She (and Bill) advised Hillary to campaign differently that she did. As an aside, she please with Obama for years to have more consideration for the party and for Democrats throughout the country. As we know, under Obama (though lack of attention), we lost the House, Senate, many governorships, and 1000 seats in state legislatures. And now, he's working on gerrymandering. That's great and necessary. The taks would be much easier with more Democrats in state legislatures.

BTW, I am not questioning what Obama did as president. IMHO, he was a fine president. He just was a terrible party leader.

I would have preferred that Brazile wait until after the VA election. Clearly, she must not like the Democratic candidate. What do all feel about what she has done. IMHO, she is attempting to challenge the influence of Clinton folks in the party. In her opinion, the party MUST move one, and perhaps should have done so in 2016. She almost pushed to have Clinton replied by Biden-Booker after her medical incident. Hillary's folks, even now, call this fake news and Russian propaganda.

Let me be very, very clear. I am astonished that the party is in such bad shape. I was astonished when Clinton didn't release tapes. I was astonished when Clinton didn't list to Bill and Obamas regarding campaigning. Clint refused to campaign as someone of the people, emphasizing her roots in middle America. She refused to campaign in rural PA, in MI and in WI. She chose to celebrate her victory in Philadelphia with Beyonce, instead of in more rural PA with singers who more represented the voters she needed.

I have little hope for 2020, given our current condition with Trump making huge mistakes every day. However, we need to start by moving away from Clinton, from Obama and their supporters. The party MUST appeal to the working class.

And just BTW, I'm a yellow dog Democrat. I believe the Bill Clinton was won of the best president ever, certainly since WWII.

The issue is perpetuities, we don't have them because we don't want perpetual generations of rich aristocrats that control the government. It's a gift for the rich, nothing more, and a dangerous one at that.

It's a bait and switch and this will hurt working Americans. Cooperate America is growing in wealth and power and this so called tax reform is going to drain the middle class while giving cooperate America a huge tax break. The deficits alone are epic, I don't know what the deficit looks like when the bubble breaks but increasing it by nearly ten percent is a mistake.

We can win the Congress by picking up votes in suburban districts.

I believe that the margin in VA governor's race was the largest for a Democrat in 30 years. The Republican Gillespie won or was within 2% in Louden County when he ran for the Senate. He lose by over 20%.

Perhaps the most important element was that there was a fierce primary where the progressive candidate lost to the moderate. ALL the Democrats no only supported the winner; the campaigned really, really hard and got the vote to come out. A big thank you to the Resistance and the various resistance groups! [I say that because I have been a moderate Democrat for over 50 years]. BTW, SHAME on John Dean's group who decided not to back the winner because he had a view that that they didn't like (non sanctuary cities).

This is the Democratic Party that I have known since my first political demonstration in the 50's! We have really tough primaries, and then we get together and win.

We are at the verge of possibly gaining control of VA House with 5 house seats too close to call. Yahoo have Democrats at 48-47. Yesterday, the Republicans had a THIRTY TWO seat margin.
