Alright I want to hear some insight from my fellow Democrats on this one, since in my daily life I only ever here conservative commentary.
Most of the propaganda I see circulating on social media is that Syrian refugees are definitely going to be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. in places like Louisiana and here in California. While some governors are refusing to allow any immigrants, Jerry Brown has announced he'll work in cooperation with President Obama to create a good environment.
For one thing, I don't know for anything has been 'definitively' concluded. It seems like the government is still trying to iron out a lot of wrinkles on any potential immigration plan for refugees. For another, are we
absolutely sure it's a wise idea to allow any refugees to immigrate at this
exact moment in time? I'm not saying
never, but it's been fewer than five days since the attacks in Paris.
This article from the Christian Science Monitor corrects a statistic given earlier this year that 15-25% of Muslims are at risk for becoming radicalized, offering a figure of less than one percent in Europe, which amounts to anywhere from 125,000-325,000.
That's a lot less than 25%, but a friend of mine did make a point that I couldn't refute (not that I was engaging him to begin with, I don't bother with Facebook debates). He pointed out that it only took 19 to pull off the September 11th attacks.
Doesn't it seem prudent to at least come up with a well-developed strategy for determining if there are any terrorists in each group that crosses the border before expressing any kind of commitment to accommodate them?
If there was a crisis that required me to take in a number of strangers into my home, I would want to be sure they weren't going to violate my family in anyway. I mean, that's the logic, right?
