CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

it's interesting that in the beginning of the chapter, Jacob is referred to as "Jacob", then a little later he's referred to as "Israel".....
and poor Joseph.....it must've seemed that he was "bragging" to his brothers....and then his "coat of many colors" that his father made just for him.....well there's a formula for endearment from his brothers towards him, eh?

Almost like the first biblical porn...just havin' the pleasure part of it...it is weird though that it would have been ok for him to get her pregnant considering it was his sister in law...
Glad that wouldn't happen now...especially in my family...my SIL isn't a looker and she's bad news all over the place...I would ask God for a reprieve...

This is extremely helpful...i was lost in the sauce in this chapter...it clarified for me that Judah was the one who suggested that Joseph be sold into slavery, and then he's blatantly doing what displeased God, in seeking a Caananite woman for a wife....and his firstborn Er.....i'm wondering what it means that he was wicked in the sight of God and that God killed him.....

It clarified for me why Onan's act of spilling his seed with was a sin punishable by death. It actually clarified a lot. I like this writer, he explains things in a down to earth way. I was lost in the sauce, a brinny calls it, too... Only it wasn't delicious Italian sauce

Ohhhh, ok, getting back to Onan, and what he did that was punishable by death...noooow i understand....(i had a hard time understanding why it was so wrong....but it was just plain cold-hearted and mean and hateful to put his brother's wife in such a quandry so deliberately....he KNEW what her fate would be and he didn't care....

Exactly, Onan knew Tamar would be left without someone to support her but he didn't care. He just used her for sex. In a way, he treated he like a prostitute. Not to excuse Tamar's deception, but she'd already been used for sex so it wasn't much of stretch for her to trick Judah into fathering a child for her.

Wow, SOOOOOO much was against Joseph with Potipher's wife blatantly accusing him and lying about him.....yet, God STILL gave Joseph favor, no matter where he went. it's like God paved the way for Joseph and as it says in Proverbs, he had favor with God and man.
