Yes faroukfarouk you are right John 3 verse 16 is also my favourite verse as well.
It is interesting to me the qualities of a King listed. Among them: 20 a "and not consider himself better than his fellow Israelites." A humble King. The humblest King was the King of Kings.
Verse 1 really caught my attention with the word "evilflavouredness"....
i'm thinkin' it maybe means "spoiled" or "old"? That Is an abominable insult....
...the commentary is helpful....there must've been idolatry all around and it must've been a HUGE influence in all the surrounding countries and Israel had to KEEP their eyes on God to not get caught up with it.....
The similarities between young Israel and my country are uncanny - Mine is only a young country too - Love for idolatry and the occult, risk of falling away from God... Mind you I think my country is at a greater danger of this than young Israel... It makes me feel a certain kinship with the people who lived in Biblical Israel. How a person might have been thankful for God's strict penalties for not obeying His commands because it was for the greater good in His chosen people. God asks us to make some tough choices sometimes but it's for OUR greater good.
bcmom I think you have a great deal to be proud about regarding your country Canada. Yours is a young beautiful country with so much potential to get things right.
I live in Britain and although I love my country we seem to have made such a mess of everything in Britain. I believe that young people are the flower of the nation.
But in Britain we have no jobs or houses for the young gereration. I believe it is the duty of all Christians to help the young generation to make a good start in life.
I love my country. One of the many things I love about my country is the right to critique it without fear of persecution or prosecution.
I agree our children are our future.
Having said that, I believe this discussion is best held elsewhere as this is a Bible study, not a political debate.
Thanks for your input.
God bless.
