The Bible Says

These are the beasts which ye shall eat: the ox, the sheep, and the goat, the hart, and the roebuck, and the fallow deer, and the wild goat, and the pygarg, and the wild ox, and the chamois.

Deuteronomy 14 vere 4

God wanted the Israelites to eat grass eating animals.
God did not want them eating meat eating carnivorous beasts.

28 At the end of every three years, bring all the tithes of that year’s produce and store it in your towns, 29 so that the Levites (who have no allotment or inheritance of their own) and the foreigners, the fatherless and the widows who live in your towns may come and eat and be satisfied, and so that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands.

This is a shining example of God's compassion. His love for all people. He did not want to see the forgotten of the nation to go hungry, He provided for them, just as He provides for us as His children now. He says he will never leave us nor forsake us. Deuteronomy 31:6

yes, He is soooooo compassionate......and it's interesting that the Levites had no inheritance, but relied on God (through His people) to provide for them....

This is a beautiful chapter of God's grace and His provision. The commentary is enlightening regarding slaves and how they are not how we think of slaves, but more like someone who is given a place to live and meals etc, in exchange for work, and even this has an end to it after 7 years. And even Then, the slave who is leaving is given provision and livestock, etc to begin a new life.

Deuteronomy 15 1-11 makes me think of God's promise to the Israelites of land filling with milk and honey Exodus 3:8. To not have to be chronically poor is truly a promised land - In comparison in our society where we think nothing of signing a 25 year mortgage and putting ourselves to in debt to a bank for a quarter of a century.

Deuteronomy Chapter 16 verse 1

Observe the month of Abib, and keep the passover unto the Lord your God: for in the month of Abib the Lord thy God brought the forth out of Egypt by night.

Thou shalt therefore sacrifice the passover unto the Lord thy God, of the flock of the herd, in the place where the Lord shall to place his name there.
