  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Re: chapter 18: Again, it's mentioned here in verse 7 that the Levites have no part of the inheritance like the others....makes me kinda' wonder if they ever felt left out because of it....

Verse 7 "But the Levites have no part among you; for the priesthood of the Lord is their inheritance:" ~

Matthew Henry writes this in his commentary about the Levites:

"Their maintenance must be brought out of all the tribes. The ministers of the Lord should show themselves indifferent about worldly interests, and the people should take care they want nothing suitable. And happy are those who have the Lord God of Israel for their inheritance, though little of this world falls to their lot. His providences will supply their wants, his consolations will support their souls, till they gain heavenly joy and everlasting pleasures."

Re: chapter 18, in verses 2-3: There are still seven tribes that have not received their inheritance. From what Joshua says, it appears that it is because they have not gone to "claim" it? Do they even realize JUST how blessed they are to have a leader like Joshua? And how BLESSED they are from God, Who essentially CLEARED the way for them, as seen by them repeatedly? Can you imagine what it was like to be Joshua, their leader?

verses 2-3:

2 And there remained among the children of Israel seven tribes, which had not yet received their inheritance.

3 And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, How long are ye slack to go to possess the land, which the Lord God of your fathers hath given you?

Re: chapter 19, verses 49-50: Joshua is the last to receive an inheritance.

49 When they had made an end of dividing the land for inheritance by their coasts, the children of Israel gave an inheritance to Joshua the son of Nun among them:

50 According to the word of the Lord they gave him the city which he asked, even Timnathserah in mount Ephraim: and he built the city, and dwelt therein.

The Lord also spake unto Joshua, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, Appoint out for you cities of refuge.

Joshua 20 verse 1

That the slayer that killeth any person unawares and unwittingly may flee thither.

Joshua 20:3

A city of refuge was a place of safety to run to, when an accidental death occurred, to be safe from avenging relatives.

Cities for Levites

Then came near the heads of the fathers of the Levites unto Eleazar the priest, and unto Joshua.

Joshua 21 verse 1

And the children of Israel gave by lot unto the Levites these cities with their suburbs, as the Lord commanded by the hand of Moses.

Joshua 21:8

The Levites were not given blocks of land like the other tribes of the children of Israel, but instead the Levites were given cities to dwell in.

Re: Chapter 21:

The Levites had to come and ask for what God had promised them....? It seems that the Israelites would've just already given to the Levites from their inheritance seeing that there was no inheritance allotted to the Levites.....why did they even have to ask?

Verses 1-3:

1 Then came near the heads of the fathers of the Levites unto Eleazar the priest, and unto Joshua the son of Nun, and unto the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel;

2 And they spake unto them at Shiloh in the land of Canaan, saying, The Lord commanded by the hand of Moses to give us cities to dwell in, with the suburbs thereof for our cattle.

3 And the children of Israel gave unto the Levites out of their inheritance, at the commandment of the Lord, these cities and their suburbs.

Joshua 22

And when they came unto the borders of Jordan, that are in the land of Canaan, the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half tribe of Manaseh built there an altar by Jordan.

Joshua 22 verse 10

When the altar was built by the Jordan, Joshua had fought his last battle. Joshua was getting very old by this time, and was soon to say farewell to the children of Israel. Peace reigned in the land. There would be no more wars until there was a new leadership of the children of Israel.

I pray you are feeling a great deal better dear friend. May Jesus' wonderful presence be your comfort today. How blessed we are to enjoy sweet fellowship together like this in His scriptures. May the Holy Ghost fill us afresh, opening our hearts and minds so we may understand what we are reading.

I enjoy listening to the dramatised narration of the bible on bible gateway. It really is quite excellent.

I am posting from England in the UK in case anyone was wondering.
