  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Deuteronomy 28 promises great things to the Israelites if they keep his commandments but he also warns about the dangers they could face it they turn away from his word.

This verse just LOOMED for me:

Verse 2 -And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God.

Hahaaaa is this DELIGHTFUL, or what??

This literally means that God's blessing will chase ya' down! His blessings will PURSUE you!!!

If one fears the Lord thy God and hearkens unto Him (because they "fear" and love Him) His blessings will HUNT THEM DOWN and OVERTAKE them!!!! hahaaaa

God is soooooo GOOD!!!!

On a sad note:

The commentary was helpful in grasping how heavy-hearted Moses must've been to speak all of this to the Israelites, even as he knew that he would not be going into the promised land with them....i can't imagine how heart-breaking this must've been for him....

Deuteronomy 29 verse 5

And I have led you forty years in the wilderness: your clothes are not waxen old upon you, and thy shoe is not waxen old upon thy foot.

Deuteronomy 29 verse 5

Here is another miracle by God for the Children of Israel.

The Children of Israel were the chosen people and God performed many miracles to help them.

I love how you love The Lord! It just radiates from you sister :)

Moses was a good and faithful servant. Though he knew he wouldn't he seeing the Promised Land, he knew he'd be seeing a far richer "land"... Heaven.

Deuteronomy 30 verse 3

The Lord thy God will turn thy captivity, and have compassion upon thee, and will return and gather thee from all the nations, whither the Lord thy God has scattered thee.

Deuteronomy 30 verse 3

These are beautiful words of prophecy from the Bible.

Could it be that these scriptures are prophesying far into the future and predicting the creation of the state of Israel in 1948?

A few things that struck me:

Do you suppose the reason God is making Moses step down and telling Moses he won't cross the river is so that Moses won't be seen as so much of a hero? A lot religions have a face associated with them... Mohammed, Buddha, etc. I wonder if the reason God rotated His prophets out was so that the Jews would be associated with Him... not Moses OR Abraham, OR Joshua OR David, but instead the God who called them all.

Also interesting: The words God speaks in Deuteronomy 31 are also in Joshua 1:9. "Be strong and courageous. Do not be discouraged or frightened, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." The fact that this pops up in multiple places makes me want to attach a post-it note that says "important" or "special"

Deuteronony Chapter 31

It is slightly sad that Moses did not get to see the promised land. Moses led them out of Egypt and across the wilderness for 40 years. It would have been the crowning glory to his career to lead the Children of Israel into the promised land.

Chapter a Day

And Moses called unto Joshua, and said unto him in the sight of all Israel, Be strong and of good courage: for thou must go with this people into the land which the Lord hath sworn unto their fathers to give them; and thou shalt cause them to inherit it.

Deuteronomy 31 verse 7

Moses had been told by God that he would not be going with the Children of Israel into the promised land.

Moses called Joshua to Him and asked him to take over as the leader of the Children of Israel. It was to be Joshua that was to lead the Israelites into the promised land.

Deuteronomy verse 1 said that Moses was 120 years old at this time. There were going to be some major military battles ahead, and a younger man was needed for this difficult leadership task.

Re: Chapter 29: these verses stood out for me:

vs 4 -Yet the Lord hath not given you an heart to perceive, and eyes to see, and ears to hear, unto this day.

vs 10 -Ye stand this day all of you before the Lord your God; your captains of your tribes, your elders, and your officers, with all the men of Israel,

it appears this is a significant day of covenant between the Israelites and their God and that this day He "gives" them a heart to perceive, and eyes to see, and ears to hear.

and then there's verses 14 and 15:

vs 14 Neither with you only do I make this covenant and this oath;

vs 15 But with him that standeth here with us this day before the Lord our God, and also with him that is not here with us this day:

THIS is PROFOUND, in that it sounds like God is speaking of "future" generations AND "us".

A covenant and an oath from God is PROFOUND. Just as He KNEW the generations of those to come that were not there yet in the beginning of those 40 years of wandering the desert, He foreknew "us" who would much later be born into His family and be His own. "We" are who was "him that is not here with us this day". (But WOULD be, generations later)

Re: chapter 30:

verses 2 and 3 are PROFOUND.

Some key words in here.....it's as if God is sayin' 'don't you be sayin' sumthin' with yer mouth that ain't in yer heart' ...the key words are "with all thy heart" "with all thy soul" and they remind me of a commandment that Jesus said and that has been repeated throughout the Bible:

Here's what Jesus said:

"Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment." ~Matthew 22:37-38

verses 2 and 3 of Chapter 30:

And shalt return unto the Lord thy God, and shalt obey his voice according to all that I command thee this day, thou and thy children, with all thine heart, and with all thy soul;

3 That then the Lord thy God will turn thy captivity, and have compassion upon thee, and will return and gather thee from all the nations, whither the Lord thy God hath scattered thee.

And as chapter 30 closes (verses 19-20), God emphasizes that they are this day choosing life or death, blessing or cursing. AND it is RECORDED before ALL of heaven and earth. This is a day of epic and eternal significance.

19 I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:

20 That thou mayest love the Lord thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the Lord sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.
