It blows my mind also. We need a shaking head smilie cuz that is what I am sitting here doing.

Lisa
Yep, I'm shaking my head too. And you of all people know the intent of the forum being as you were a founding member who helped create the guidelines & SOF.

Part of me is sad about that whole fiasco & how it went down the toilet, and another part of me feels free at the same time to be rid of all that headache.

It's wierd how you can have 2 completely opposite feelings at the same time (in different ways towards it).
If I didn't put so much time & effort into it, I doubt I'd be as sad to see the condition it's in.

Yeah, I get that. I went through the same thing. It was almost like a grieving process and then, at the same time, there was relief. In the end, I had to come back because I did not like how I had left.

I am still a bit shocked how things are being handled. It is really weird for me because I was a GA poster prior to 7-7-07, rarely venturing out into Congregations. So, I don't have any memory of Congregations prior to that. So, these changes, and the audacity of some is completely mind boggling to me.

Was this how it was before? Were Congregations ruled with an iron fist?

Lisa I was a mod and a supervisor for a very long time in Congregational Fora before the 777 debacle. In general the answer to your question is no. There were at times supervisors who would step in and try to enforce rules or agenda's that were contrary to the rules but as mods or sups we could do something about it. Now there is no accountability whatsoever.

There were squabbles occassionally between the different fora but normally staff could work those out rather well by working together. I use to mod STR, Fundamentalist Forums, SDA, WWMC, SF/PC and a few others. There were many times I went to Catholic mods to ask their opinions on something that might have been posted in Fundamentalist Forums for example.

As far as I know 2 week probations, threats to close fora without input from the membership, and overturning a consensus of mods was (almost) unheard of. We did have a group of staff that would sometimes be called into help in Protestant/Catholic issues. I usually avoided them like the plaque because I thought they got it wrong most of the time.

This idea of not having membership lists will lead to much strife and in my opinion purposeful submarining of threads.

Joh 14:1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
Joh 14:2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
Joh 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
Joh 14:4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.

Thanks Dude. I didn't think so. Couldn't even imagine it, but there you have it. So, it is then an appearance of "saving" the forum but under such circumstances that the chance of failure is so great that it was nearly insured.

Let me just see if I have this right:

Members were outraged because Admins overruled a decision in a report thread. So, behind the scenes, privately, what to do with bad ole CCC was discussed. It was determined that CCC would be put under probation. Members conformed to the probation so they had no reason to shut down CCC. So, then, a Blue A who has been hostile to CCC in the recent past then decides to be a member. The answer to a request for our staff to deal with this results in our membership being revoked.

Oh, yes, way fair, balanced, and no plot there. Nope.

Congregation areas are new to me becuz I wasn't in them prior to Erwin changing over the entire site. I was looking for a 'safe haven', and found CC.
I can't believe the iron fist of staff either Lisa - I really can't. But I noticed this with Flaglady's comment about how they can enforce things at their own will at their discretion.
So basically, members can make rules & have intent, but they don't necessarily have to enforce anything they don't want to.
I just think alot of this is bias & partiality going on w/ friends & cliques (I've thought that for awhile now due to seeing staff reports & their comments & actions).
:sigh: :help:

People there are conservative. I honestly do not see any conspiracy, nastiness (its gotten nicer..)
I like it.
Maybe people are overreacting.
(shrug).
Shout out to contentinhim!

No, we are not overreacting. No other forum is under a gag order. No other forum's membership guidelines have been ignored, and when protested, removed.

CCC is now an open forum. It is as if our Church were taken over by Muslims and we are forced to worship Allah instead of Jesus Christ.

Unbelievable! A certain person is now inviting "like minded" people over to CC in Moderate Christians. Unbelievable!

Lisa
No it isn't unbelievable Lisa... you could see the writing on the wall girl.
[edited: already read & not necessary to remain].... I dont' think I'll be posting in CC even just to chit chat becuz it give it more "life" and I think the area is harmful at this point due to new events.

There's definitely something else going on tho - in one of the reports just made on me in the sign out thread the reason is this "further documentation"...
interesting.

This idea of not having membership lists will lead to much strife and in my opinion purposeful submarining of threads.
The problem is ... for every other forum which restricts membership based on some sort of criteria there is an icon or setting for it:

1. Teens - Age based
2. Congregation - Denominational Icon
3. Politics - Political Icon
4. Men/Women Fora - Gender Icon

The lone exceptions, the Conservative, Liberal and Moderate fora. Obviously, the liberals don't want a "theological perspective" icon, but it would fit with the rest of the operation of the site. Then, you wouldn't need participant lists, you'd just look at the icon that you most self-identify with. This would resolve 99% of the problems. Why staff is so short-sighted they cannot see this, and consequently ask for it ... is beyond me.

Well, actually I know why ... they haven't given the situation any thought, and hence haven't thought up a suitable fix. Because they just don't care.

Well, they are not even abiding by the few rules that we do have. Notification, report, infraction, warning of ban, ban.

I am being threatened with an FSB based on two reports with no infractions, no counsel, NOTHING!

What a bunch of Nazis! Can I say that? Probably not. I forget that my citizanship ends here at CF. Guess what, my liberty in Christ doesn't.

 Me, a fundie? Say it isn't so! :p

I guess I had more fundie in me than I thought. Good grief. When I think about our flag raising ceremony today and shaking the hands of our veterans, and then, come home to being silenced on the internet.

I am sitting in a free country being surpressed on the Internet.

I mean my civil liberties are not at stake. I agreed to the terms of this site, but you know? Something is just plain wrong with this whole thing.

we saw this coming Lisa. The system begs for dictatorship; it's created FOR IT, and look who's at the top of the food chain on staff.

I said weeks ago that Erwin's lovely vision gave 'them' a stronghold at CF - throw Lee the ownership & he puts upper staff in full charge, removes all openness of staff, removes your ability to publically discuss staff actions and what do you have?
SUPPRESSION, CENSORSHIP, DICTATORSHIP.

This is the recipee for it. And this was coming for a long time - it's just finally coming to a head.

Lee has lost all my respect and the suspicions were right.

Jo just said that they don't have the infraction system in place. All they have is the FSB. I told her it was a crock because #1, she still has PM's in which she can talk to me, counsel me, and warn me, and #2, why are they using a system that is not yet installed?

Nadiine is right (as always  )
Be prepared for another "fixing the database" time out so infractions can be reinstated.
As soon as any announcements are made about changes, staff jumps on it. I'm sure they're informed long before it's made public and are ready and willing to put it into action.

LOL, and I'll probably get one just for this post. :p
