I've heard ppl say carpenters is elevator music and people judging them on their image. I guess they prolly tone deaf and don't know what good music is. Sorry.

No, people call their songs elevator music because of the content of their songs. Offhand I cannot think of another group whose complete catalog of work is so insipid.

Now insipid was carefully chosen. Their songs are pretty and well sung and produced. But they seem to never have anything to say. I happen to be one who things lyrics matter and songs that say nothing are suitable for elevators.

some of their deepest songs, that Karen had a special aptitude for was the melancholy theme. She totally got the feelings that go with being lonely. But it was not a whiny lonliness that singers these days go on about. It's like a heartbreaking lonely that can only be remedied by pouring one's heart out to God. And knowing He's there anyway.
