I wonder what is it about Karens voice that is so special.

I think because she sang low in a natural speaking voice and didnt have the vocal dramatics that other singers had maybe? Like she was confiding in you, or in the happy songs, songing as if she didnt have a care in the world and not really trying to impress you.

She was a natural, true contralto. Which is said to be the rarest female singing voice. (According to Wiki, present in 1% of the population.) Combine that with her clear and perfect diction, and you have one very special and unique vocalist.

I saw a documentary over the weekend on the REELZ cable channel, on a forensic examination of Karen's death. It was called Autopsy: The Last Hours Of… I don't know if you can get that outside the US, but if you can, I think you would find it interesting Goodbook. It explored the roots of her anorexia.

I saw that, it was aired on tv here.

There was one movie made of her life played by barbie dolls apparently was much frowned upon by the carpenters family and banned.

The biography 'little girl blue' was revealing about Karens struggle with anorexia.

Recently God impressed on me to give up listening to the carpenters as, well, they were a bit of a mixture and satan had an influence on them. Karens life was cut short because she let herself be involved with spirits of depression..it got to her in the end.

I think those in the music industry were of course only interested if they sold well. Perfectionism also took its toll, but seems to me the main issue was their mother agnes, withholding affection from her daughter. Anorexics basically are starving for attention and hungry for love. Karen never really got that from her mother.

What was really going on inside Karens heart?

Only God knows that for sure. Outwardly, we know both Richard and Karen worked a lot with Campus Crusade for Christ. I believe they did have somewhat of a relationship with the Lord.

And many true and strong believers struggle with various issues because we live in a fallen world; depression is one of them. According to that documentary, Richard battled drug use himself.

I heard they grew up methodists.
I dont know if the touring lifestyle just put a quash on their faith. You would hope that it would have been strong enough to see karen through but by many accounts she was quite stubborn with this eating disorder and going down the wrong path.

A shame. When we are christians many can start out with good intentions but many dont last the distance. The fruits of Karens life despite how it ended...were they good? What do you think? I think she admitted she was self-deceiving.

The bible says the heart is deceitful and wicked who can know it? It was karens heart giving out that killed her in the end. Although many people look at her life and said she died of a broken heart.

The music of the Carpenters is so timeless. I was born in '73, and heard much of this music as a little girl; music influenced me at an early age so I heard a variety of music all my life.

Here are a couple of favorites!
