  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Given how much one's religious views influence our understanding of origins, I think it would be a good idea if we all took the Belief-O-Matic quiz and shared our results.

This is the quiz:
http://www.beliefnet.com/story/76/story_7665_1.html

These are my results:
1. Eastern Orthodox (100%) 2. Roman Catholic (100%) 3. Orthodox Quaker (94%) 4. Seventh Day Adventist (91%) 5. Mainline to Conservative Christian/Protestant (83%) 6. Hinduism (79%) 7. Mainline to Liberal Christian Protestants (78%) 8. Liberal Quakers (66%) 9. Orthodox Judaism (65%) 10. Sikhism (62%)

It would also be good to share your answer to question #3. Mine is that God creates and controls the phenomena uncovered by scientists, with a priority of "high."

Peace.

I'd say it's pretty good, as it puts what I am at 100% (RCC).

Question #3: I put what punchy put, with a priority of low. How the world and universe started doesn't matter too much. What matters is faith in Jesus Christ and following God's Commands. That's what I think, anyways.

Worst quiz ever.

Orthodox Judaism (100%)? Did my belief in the trinity not alter that at all? :)

Oh, my answer to #3 was the same.

Crawfish, are you sure you're suppose to be posting here?

Wasn't there also a question with an option that implied Jesus was God incarnate?

I always had my reservations about you, and now I'm going to keep an even closer eye on you, and your pagan belief in evolution.

Here are my results (I see we have a number of pacifist):

1. Orthodox Quaker (100%)
2. Mainline to Liberal Christian Protestants (89%)

Interesting results, I think that if I was going to leave the Methodist church, I'd probably look seriously into becoming Orthodox. My answer to #3 was the same as Punchy's.

1-4 make great sense: I'm an orthodox high-church Anglo-Catholic Episcopalian.

5 is there for some strange reason.

6 and 7 are somewhat interesting, but quite understandable. Sanatana Dharma ("Hinduism") and Sikhism are both monotheistic.

8. I'd really must say that, if I were Jewish, I'd be a Conservative Jew and not an Orthodox Jew.

9. I actually wished Islam would be there, but I know why Baha'i is so high.

Oh, by the way; I always cut out those Quaker results. They don't belong there.

Oh, and I chose option 3, though I forgot the priority (medium or high). I don't disagree with option 2 however.

enough to get the picture.

One item that stood out for me is that I seem to be the odd one out when it comes to Eastern Orthodox. For me it scored only 36% (21st on the list) and the same % for Roman Catholic. I expect I wasn't sacramental enough.

The results are pretty telling:

Theistic evolution is typical among conservatives, moderates and liberals; among "Catholics," Protestants, and Calvinists; men and women; young and older.

It is nice to know that, despite our theological differences, we TEs can appreciate our common stance that science is not to be a detriment to our faith but in fact provides a source of inspiration and wonder that makes our awe and reverence to God even greater. :)
