  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Secular Humanism (27%)

I didn't expect SDA to be my second preference. Similarities between me and the founder of YECism? A dark idea.

I'm also disappointed that Hinduism scored higher than Islam as the first non-Christian religion on the list. If I wasn't a Christian now I think I would have most liked to be a Muslim. Then again, considering the options open in question 1 (of which I may have picked a rather heterodox wording :p) I'm not surprised on hindsight that the results turned out as they did.

I thought about none-of-the-above. Philosophically, do I really believe God is guiding the processes? It sort of sounds like God is constantly nudging things.

Instead of 3 as "God guiding the processes...", I'd rather "God created the processes..."

That is why I answered none of the above.

To me the wording of the question smacked of the usual arguments I hear from fundamentalists who think that God is basically pulling the strings on everything at all times to the most minute level.

I don't believe God is changing the air flow over a football on a game winning field goal attempt in a Division III college football game in mid-November in front of a crowd of 300 people so that one team loses and the other wins.

As to my answer to #3, I chose the first option, although it didn't quite sum up my beliefs. I do not believe that the Biblical creation view is in conflict with science, but was unsure what "phenomena" the third choice was referring to (evolution?).

Its funny how so many people are getting Seventh Day Adventist and Orthodox Quaker. Wouldn't have expected that.
I suppose because they're Christian, while the other options are not. To be honest, this quiz is rather vague - I know I've seen better ones out there.

Crawfish, are you sure you're suppose to be posting here?

Wasn't there also a question with an option that implied Jesus was God incarnate?

I always had my reservations about you, and now I'm going to keep an even closer eye on you, and your pagan belief in evolution.

I think I'm gonna be keeping an eye on me, too. :sorry:

Honestly, I took it a few years ago and was "Mainline to conservative Christian/Protestant". I need to explore it to see exactly what answer is causing me to be pegged as 100% Reform Judaism, because I saw at least three that should have conflicted with it. :)

I've always thought this quiz was one of the better ones, though it could be better.

What do you recommend?

It's true, the questions don't get into deep details, but I haven't seen other quizzes out there that factor in the amount of importance on a particular belief. That's actually pretty vital as a universalist could fit just about anywhere though they'd put a very low priority on most issues.

But what's the Christian answer for the first question? If I remember correctly, the wording was such that it was either a one-person God (which sounds too much like Islam) or multiple facets of deity (which sounds too much like Hinduism).

The wording of the first question is
beliefnet said:
What is the number and nature of the deity (God, gods, higher power)? Choose one.

  1. Only one God--a corporeal spirit (has a body), supreme, personal God Almighty, the Creator.
  2. Only one God--an incorporeal (no body) spirit, supreme, personal God Almighty, the Creator.
  3. Multiple personal gods (or goddesses) regarded as facets of one God, and/or as separate gods.
  4. The supreme force is the impersonal Ultimate Reality (or life force, ultimate truth, cosmic order, absolute bliss, universal soul), which resides within and/or beyond all.
  5. The supreme existence is both the eternal, impersonal, formless Ultimate Reality, and personal God (or gods).
  6. No God or supreme force. Or not sure. Or not important.
  7. None of the above.
I think the standard Christian answer (though perhaps not universal) is option 2. Particularly since a later question asks about an incarnation; and a still later one (about worship) references essenses and whatnot.

Option 2. God is incorporeal spirit. If you answered one, you'd agree with the Mormons! :)

I thought Mormons said God has a body? Anyway...

1. Eastern Orthodox (100%) 2. Roman Catholic (100%) 3. Orthodox Quaker (98%) 4. Mainline to Conservative Christian/Protestant (94%) 5. Mainline to Liberal Christian Protestants (93%) 6. Seventh Day Adventist (90%) 7. Orthodox Judaism (78%) 8. Bahá'í Faith (77%) 9. Sikhism (73%) 10. Liberal Quakers (72%) 11. Islam (68%) 12. Hinduism (63%) 13. Unitarian Universalism (62%) 14. It feel odd as a former Irish Catholic to have Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic at 100%. I did the quiz a few years ago and got similar results, while I can't remember the answers I gave, with a lot of the questions there is a choice of different not-quite-right answers I could have given.

Is baptism required? Quakers are saved by faith though they don't get baptised, but we are commanded to be baptised when we believe. Divorce? The church should be strongly opposed to divorce, but gracious to people whose marriages have fallen apart.

Are good deeds necessary? Of course. But...

I don't even remember how I answered that one, just picked and took my chances I think.

Jesus had an eternal body, we are to recieve new perfect bodies; does God have a body? Earthly, no. But a spiritual form? I don't know.

I found many questions vague or incomplete.

The word corporeal means to be material; to be physical.

Of the western religions, only Mormonism (AFAIK) hold option 1.

Jesus took on corporeal form. Is his spiritual body corporeal? I don't know. Is it solid? It would seem that when he wants it to be it is. But, I think we'd be on shaky ground to declare much of anything about that body -- save perhaps that it represents some definition of perfection.
