I was pursuing a degree in architecture in the past and actually just finished designing a modern-themed gym for my brother. A professional architect is supposed to take over the project and have it built, hopefully keeping it to as close to my original design as possible.

It's only a matter of time until the more frequented gyms like the YMCA and others take advantage of the free energy being generated by people working on machines. My thought was to harness all that energy and put it toward the electricity. I know it would cost a lot of money to implement that kind of infrastructure but in the long term it would pay for itself, not to mention other creative endeavors you could use for that when dealing with gym clients. It stinks having a lot of ideas for entrepreneurship and no money to see them thru. (Sorry I won't derail the thread anymore)

Oh that looks so neat! Whenever the project is finished you should come back and post the photos. I mean I know it'll probably be awhile but still. I can wait. :satisfied:

I believe that's on topic actually. A lot of buildings are becoming more energy friendly and it's apart of architecture just like metal or bricks would be.

Awesome! I'm looking forward to it.

Our Nature Center is doing the whole energy saving thing by building like a cover for their parking lot made up of solar panels. I thought that was pretty creative and a great way to recycle energy and it makes the building look really modern.

I love the advancements with photovoltaic systems - they now have P.V. film you can apply to glass, which allows you to turn any window into a solar panel. Cool stuff =)

Wow really? I didn't even know that. Would this be for residential use or only for business? I wonder if it's expensive :mmh:

I first heard about it in one of my classes; really interesting technology. I don't think it's too expensive and should be applicable for both residential and business use - here's a video that explains how it works:

They also have P.V. systems you can install on exterior walls; if I ever design my own house one day, I want to install them everywhere (on the roof, walls and on every window) and turn my house into one big solar panel lol.

@-Hannah- have you thought any more about going back to school to become an architect? What kind of buildings would you be doing?

I'm still thinking about things. I'll send you a private message in September, if you don't mind, and let you know what I decided. :) Thank you for your interest. You are indeed Sweet, Carolina.
I have no idea what I would be doing. I'm such a theoretic; Architecture is completely out of my league.

That would be really awesome! The ultimate green house :D
