The apostles of Christ knew Him first hand for three years night and day. They had a revelation of God comparing to the Old Testament prophets. They were trained, enriched in love and given power from on high. Then Saul was given a revelation and call. It is written that there was also Andronicus and Junias, maybe Barnabas was an apostle too. They did the work of making converts of Hebrews and gentiles and forming churches such as the seven churches. This really should not have stopped, true?

A church without apostles and evangelists subsists, does not grow and reproduce. Others agree?

What the early church seemed to have was succession and repetition. The great revelation of God Peter and John had and even Paul, it was comparable to Moses' revelation, but this battery of power in them the successors lacked. Young Christians of the first and second centuries to have this revelation and power would be helped up into God by the apostles and evangelists... Timothy, Apollos... but then to be strong would need seek God's face and receive His Spirit and love. Like Moses go up the mountain, meet God, and come down with something to give the fellows and outsiders.

I open discussion of how many apostles there were, how is the church to grow and multiply and are there apostles today, are there prophets today and on the matter of seeking God's face, love and being disciples of the Holy Spirit now sent in in Jesus place and the revival of experiencing God's face and love...

No I don't agree. The apostles were noted for one thing, they had walked with Jesus. Check out the passage in acts where they sort out a replacement for Judas.

How did the church grow? Again you find in Acts that as the early Christian fled from perscution, they talked about their belief and others believed.

How does the church grow today? In the same way it always has, because Christians live and talk about Jesus.
Question for you. How different are you from your work collegues?
Check out how honest, time keeping, reliable etc you are How ready to talk about Jesus i any situation?

There is no need for us to be able to do miracles etc, only for God to send his spirit to convict of sin.

Romans and other books speak only a little about sin. People who turn from reverence of a just judge make up maybe a third of converts. For others it is love and others wisdom.

Why do current day apostles make so many sincere converts?

The old European churches grew by law and childbirths. But Brazil, India, China... are important too and are in the interests of missionaries. Only when the whole world hears the Gospel does Jesus return to rule. And may have unfairly gone without grace for centuries.

Act 11:13 He told us how he had seen an angel standing in his house, who said to him, 'Send someone to Joppa for a man whose full name is Simon Peter.
Act 11:14 He will speak words to you by which you and all your family will be saved.'
Act 11:15 And when I began to speak, the Holy Spirit came down on them just as on us at the beginning.
Act 11:16 Then I remembered what the Lord had said: 'John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.'
Act 11:17 It is clear that God gave those Gentiles the same gift that he gave us when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ; who was I, then, to try to stop God!"
Act 11:18 When they heard this, they stopped their criticism and praised God, saying, "Then God has given to the Gentiles also the opportunity to repent and live!" GNB
The same Baptism in the Fire of God for Gentiles as well at the disciples of Jesus at Pentecost.

God willing Cornelius could have become an apostle.

The Church has apostles, Peter, James, John, Paul, Apollos, et al. We don't need any more than those the Lord Himself already supplied, the apostolic teaching and authority is preserved in the Church by those whom the Apostles taught and commended and appointed as bishops and presbyters as pastors, who serve the people of God in persona Christi through the ministry of Word and Sacrament.

All modern day "apostles and prophets" are fakes.

The Church has revelation, from God in Jesus, given to the Apostles whose word was preached and delivered to the churches, we have this revelation in the Church by our reception of the word in Scriptures and the confession of this same ancient and apostolic faith today.

Anyone delivering new "revelation" is a fake, a liar, and a false prophet.

New revelations or recovery of lost truth, or expansion of understanding of the cross and it's time and place? One teaching I heard from an apostles conference was about the cross as it was relevant and attractive to the Romans in their way of life. Roman fathers and sons.

Without apostles, church planting, we would not have the majority Christian world. South America, India, China, Eastern Europe, Africa. It is not fair for us to minister only for ourselves and crumble while those who never heard the Gospel are hungry and not fed the Gospel. India, Africa and China should have heard the Gospel much even during medieval times, but the revival of missionaries only really started up again with the Moravians and John Wesley.

What is the name of the Moravian Lutheran confesssion?

According to the Didache there are itinerant apostles and prophets, and there is a need to test them for authenticity against ones after money.

God is always doing new things in the Bible, then some say it has stopped and the Bible trend is over and there will be no new revelations. I like the revelation of the father's love.

Love that does things like fixing Northern Ireland is more important than factions and in fights and so called contending for the faith. Peace is the test.

At the time when the Didache was written, there were still living apostles. And, yes, the Didache, like some of the letters of the New Testament, mention itinerant prophets, traveling preachers and teachers.

The Church stands upon one revelation, and that's Jesus Christ.

Missionaries may be "apostolic" in that they go out and preach the word in places where it has not yet been preached; it's for this reason that a number of figures in the history of the Church have been given the honorific of "apostle". St. Patrick is remembered as the "Apostle to the Irish" but he is not reckoned an apostle in the way the Twelve, or St. Paul was. The Apostolic "authority" is retained in the Church through the Pastorate, in her bishops and presbyters; not in itinerants--and certainly not in self-proclaimed modern false apostles.
