No, it's the exact opposite. The first night, there were no "peaceful protests", only a bit of rioting. Protest didn't take place until the next day, after his comment. I suspect he'd been watching TV, heard there were protests in other cities, and confused the two things.

Which city would this be ?

Protesters are putting thousands, if not millions, of lives at risk by not social distancing during the midst of a pandemic. States are still coming out of lockdown, and you're not supposed to congregate unless you absolutely must.

Will they, and their supporters, take responsibility for the lives lost to their selfish display of self-righteousness?

I'm not sure what that has to do with the ad, but I'm want protesters to stay home for that exact reason. Just like I wanted the liberate protesters, church attendance and memorial day celebrations to be put on hold. I haven't left my house more than once a week since all this started.

Local authorities are asking people to social distance and be safe. Protesters say they are willing to risk their lives now so more people don't die later. Protesters are handing out masks and sanitizers, though health experts say the tear gas is going to make things worse because of all the droplets expelled. I still think it is irresponsible, but I understand righteous anger from yet again seeing the image of someone who looks like my family and friends being given a knee for almost 10 minutes straight and no guarantee of justice. In 10 minutes I can take a shower and get dressed. I can watch 1/3 of a tv show. I can fix my breakfast. I can walk over to the corner store and back.

My health department has said there were known covid19 protesters and asking that all get tested. I'm sure this is the case elsewhere. Hopefully the younger folks will manage, but there is no guarantee and I'm expecting that in about 3 weeks it will be a mess. Covid rates are already going up and few people in the media are reporting it. Trump has abandoned the cause with no briefings or updates. States are still planning on reopening.

That said, Trump wants to hold rallies now. Reports had that he was furious that he had to stop because of covid. Right now he is in a pickle because the optics would be bad with all the protests going on. The only place he can order troops without invoking the insurrection act is DC, and at least one AG has threatened to sue if he tries it. Between all the events this past month I expect we have 2 maybe 3 weeks before we start seeing a covid surge that cannot be ignored. So he has 2-3 weeks to end the protests and get a rally in before it would be reckless to do so. Well, IMO, it's already reckless. He is pulling the RNC convention out of NC because they won't guarantee the arena can be held at full capacity and that the local restaurants will operate at full capacity. Georgia had invited him so we'll see where he goes.

What an ugly thing to say. The protests are about civil rights, and trying to paint that as self-righteousness is extremely unpleasant.

Are you conceding that COVID is now a serious issue? It wasn't a month ago when the Second Amendment Crusaders wanted a haircut...

Comforting words don't stop a thief.

But comforting words can minister to a community ...

Too many people think that accepting comfort is a sign of weakness... they're obsessed with looking "strong."

I frequently have a problem with posting occurring before I am able to finish.

5) Republican efforts at voter suppression especially efforts to limit or prevent voting by mail. Republicans are pushing to open up the country despite concerns about the Corona Virus. Those most threatened, ie, individuals in frail health, might for this reason be inclined to vote Democratic but will be afraid to do si if they have to vote in person.

Again, the situation across the country is very volatile and political conditions may change considerably in the next few months. If Trump wins again however divided the country appears now those divisions will likely only increase after the election. With the recent violence, hostility toward the press and proclivities of this administration toward authoritarianism I can foresee domestic surveillance and efforts to curtail personal freedoms.

In a subsuquent post I reversed my prognostication stating for various reasons that I believe Biden would likely win but I also stated that conditions were volatile, could change and that the election was months away.. Looking at current circumstances I now believe that a Trump victory is a possibility.

For example according to Real Clear Politics in 2016 Hillary Clinton was further ahead of Trump in polls in battleground states then Biden is in respect to Trump at this same juncture in the election cycle. Also according to recent polls the race is tightening although this may be a temporary effect of the recent Republican convention.

I also believe that attempts to suppress voting, especially voting by mail will have a negative effect on votes for Biden. The Electoral Collegeis is also skewed to favor Donald Trump.

Should Trump win under these circumstances national conflict will only intensify and there will be a further drift toward authoritarianism, especially involving efforts to suppress extra -legal resistance (from civil disobedience to violent actions) by the Trump administration. The country will be very restive. The other alternative, a modest/weak Biden victory will be contested and there will be considerable conflict as well but the drift toward authoritarianism will be aborted.

I epect the vote to be close. Let's see how accurate these predictions are.

And wanting to go back to church too, without restrictions concerning attendance. Refusing to wear masks and social distance. They were screaming bloody murder about how their rights were being taken away while sensible people still gathered in church and followed the preventive guidelines.

Trump won't lose. Did you know you can't spell TRIUMPH without TRUMP? Trump is written in triumph, so he can't possibly lose.
I’m sure there were at least a few that said the same about his casino.

You also can’t spell it without trip, [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse], imp, rip, ump, tip, rim, and rum.
