In fact, during the first six weeks of Obama's term, several events reinforced the notion that embryonic stem cells, once thought to hold the cure for Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and diabetes, are obsolete. The most sobering: a report from Israel published in PLoS Medicine in late February that shows embryonic stem cells injected into patients can cause disabling if not deadly tumors.

I'm sorry, the above post is proof that a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing.

It feels like you have no idea how science works. Do you know what would happen if research on new promising technologies were halted after eight years of failures... If this were the case, we'd have very few advances.

Research involves trial and error and failures... lots and lots and lots of failures. And this is doubly so for medical and biosystems research.

The thing laymen do not understand is that science advances because of BOTH the Successes and the Failures.

I've done research and development. You have no idea how hard it is adding to the span of human knowledge-- thinking thoughts that have never been thought of before. and doing things that have never been done before. Imagine developing math and science that does not exist so that you can describe a new phenomena that you have discovered.

You don't know what you don't know which means you can't say what you do or don't need. Do you have any idea how many medical discoveries were accidents?

It could very well be that embryonic stem cells are a red herring. Embryonic stem cells could be the biological equivalent to the plum pudding model or the ether. However, even if that is the case, research into using embryonic stem cells will still advance science and still lead to cures because it would eliminate branches from the decision/solution tree enabling us to find the right path.

If what you say is true, then Scientist will figure it out... they don't need legislation or armchair quarterbacks with no understanding of science to show them. The Scientific Method will sort it out one way or the other.

Other cell types are still used in cell culture as a part of scientific research.
