We are pleased to announce that The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is currently in development for PC and future generation consoles. In development since 2002, Oblivion is another leap forward in role-playing with its combination of freeform gameplay and cutting-edge graphics.

Game Informer -apart from having a 12 page story on the game- has a in game screenshot in the cover. Enjoy:

I never knew what they where planning with that count down, but I always had a feeling TES: IV was going to be released on a next-gen platform.

Cool! If Morrowind has been any indication, by around 2009, I will be able to afford a computer fast enough to play it with most of the special options turned off.
ha ha, well don't fret too much. From the looks of it, it seems to be the equivalent of the new Unreal Engine.

i must say, morrowind was an awsome game, but if you just step back at take a look at it, its really crappy.

what takes your mind off of the gameplay (the worst part) is the role playing stuff and the fact that its free-roaming.
whats wrong with the gameplay is this....
- no one does anything, they all just stand around, doing nothing
- the battle system is whacked, you slash at a monster with a sword and only hit is 1/20 times even if the crosshair is right on.
- if you attack someone, the guards get you, if someone attacks you, the guards just stand by
- TONS of bugs
- repetitive dialogue
- you really can't role play, because even a mage (with alot of effort) can become a knight.
and on and on

if you played a game where people just stood around, 24/7, would you think it was good? ...not me

i really hope bethesda comes up with some new mechanics, instead of focusing on graphics.

Hmm. My major complaints are the UI. I don't object at all to swords "missing"; after all, even if I'm good at aiming a mouse, my character may be bad with a sword. I object strongly to arrows falling away from the target. The entire point of role-playing is, after all, to play a role - for instance, for a character who is a skilled archer to arch arrows reliably, not for the player to have to do it.

I have no objection to the interdisciplinary stuff. Why should that be a problem? Nothing says a mage can't become a knight in many gaming systems; even D&D allows you to mess around with archetypes these days. I don't see that as an inability to roleplay, rather, as a bit of an opening.

I'm pretty much on the same page as you, but I do think the arc allowed for more player interaction --something the game was lacking. But it did take away from the experience in the end.

i see what you're saying, maybe i just worded my statement wrong...
With the swords, 'missing' well, with the ability to miss so often, the programmers could've put in a few new animations to show the fact that you suck with a sword, or bow, or whatever, instead of doing the same animation that a very skilled player would do.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind seeing more variance in the animations, but... I mostly ignore the animations anyway.

I dunno; I've been enjoying Morrowind, but I finally got Temple of Elemental Evil running, and I like the combat SOOOO much better in that.
