Have any of you tried at home teeth whitening? If so, what have you used, how long before you saw results, and was it worth it?

I'm thinking of jumping on the teeth whitening "band-wagon" and buying some Crest White Strips. Just thought I'd ask for some opinions before I spend the time and $$$ to do so. :)

I bought a $10 one... from Colgate. Just wanted to try it, and with $10... if it doesn't work, it's not like I've lost a whole lot. :) I stopped using it... it was rather gross. It was a gel you brush on your teeth after you've dried them. It became thickened and just disgusting. I started brushing my teeth with peroxide after I brush with toothpaste. It's a whitner... real cheap too. Some people's gums will turn white... mine has had two spots of whiteness, but whatever, lol. It's been fine every other time--I think I brushed too hard that day. :)

From someone else that used the CREST Whitestrips... they said they moved around on your teeth and made you drool becauce you had a "foreign object" in your mouth. *shrugs*

I always use crest white strips and the gel.. why? I dunno..

To be honest, they haven't whitened my teeth. Most at home teeth whiteners really don't do much at all, and if they do it takes a very long time to see very little results. If your really looking to have your teeth whitened, seeing your dentist might be your best bet. Even "whitening" toothpaste's don't do anything but help prevent your teeth from becoming worse. (From what my dentist said)

I wonder if I can get Rembrant toothpaste here, what's the title? Is it just "Rembrant"?

Where do you normally get peroxide? From the chemist (drugstore)?

This question probably wasn't directed towards me but I'll still answer ;) It's called Rembrandt Toothpaste, and I haven't got a clue if it sells in Australia. You can pick up peroxide in most markets or drugstores (here in the U.S at least). Good stuff in my opinion..

I tried using the Crest strips but after about 4 days my teeth became so sensitive I couldn't even eat crackers without having pain so I gave up on them. I'd love to have a little brighter smile but not at the expense of super sensitive teeth. My mom does use them though and has no problems so I guess it all depends on the individual.

I bought the Wal-Mart brand whitening strips. They're ten dollars cheaper than the Crest Whitestrips and work just as well. I saw results the second day! No lie.

It tastes kind of bad at first, but I've found it's much better if you eat something very sweet or sour first. Also, I keep a washrag nearby just in case I need to spit into it. It's kinda hard to spit into the sink or toilet with those things clinging to your teeth. (Sorry, I know that's a bit gross, but I'm trying to be honest. :p)

Halle Berry, Britney Spears, and cameron Diaz use GoSmile. It's an ampoule you break open (stronger than crest white strips which didn't work for me) then squeeze the gel so it saturates the tip of the cotton swab on the ampoule. Then you "swab" onto your teeth. You only need to apply it to the teeth you want whitened and that will show. It has the strongest hydrogen peroxide available. It is chemically processed and not available in any stores. And, it's not too harsh that it will ruin the enamel on your teeth (from what they say in their ad). I've heard on many boards that it's the best out there, and my husband saw it on InStyle and TheView, so I just ordered some from new-raves.com. In fact, new-raves has the actual segment that was taped on "TheView" and other news shows. It's pretty interesting. It's $55.00 (normally $75.00) and you get 30 Ampoules. You apply it twice a day and you get 6 whiter shades in 14 days. There are no trays or sensitivity. I had tried Rembrandt and it didn't really help me either, so I am keeping my fingers crossed with GoSmile. I checked into whitening with my dentist and they wanted to charge $500.00. I personally think that's a rip-off.

Something that I do that works really well is I mix Peroxide with my mouth wash. You know how mouth wash bottles have the tops that you put it in and use it as a cup. Well I just put enough mouthwash in that, then mix in about 4 drops of peroxide every night before I go to bed. The mouth wash takes away the nasty taste of peroxide, but yeah I started using it when I got my braces off. I started seeing results in about a week. Oh and you can get Peroxide at Wal-mart or Big Lots or K-mart any place like that. It will be over with the medicine, probably next to the Rubbing Alcohol. Its a liquid and its normally in a brown bottle.

I have both peroxide & mouth wash at home, so I think I'll give that a shot - plus it won't cost me anything to try it out!

I currently use the Crest Whitening toothpaste. It sounds like the Crest Whitestrips may not be as good as they're advertised to be.
