All I have to say to those posting videos in this thread, thanks for not posting Taylor Swift ones! LOL
The other side of the planet from Tool and All Them Witches. I've been playing drums to this when I want to get my dance pop groove on. Its hot!

(And Rick Beato from earlier loved it).

That's what I thought. Some musicians spent their entire careers making personal songs. Where better to find inspiration than to look inward and write about a failed romance or a personal experience?
Adele anyone?

I was afraid that her weight loss might affect her singing. But...not in any way.
I think she has the potential to eventually be the "best ever" for some definition of best. But Aretha's take on Nessun Dorma thinks it will be a long time before anyone can compare.

Oh dear. Sorry, but no. I'm afraid that didn't work for me at all.

I had to immediately go watch Pavarotti sing it. And it literally made me cry.

See Poe's law!

Poe created it because of things on this site, and it has only gotten more true as time went by.
I was there 3000 years ago when the strength of satire fell.

I am no republican, so if this person's voters are ignorant enough to elect him. That is on them, i quit playing the politics game awhile back and have no crooks i want to vote for.
My point was you cannot indict an entire cohort of individuals based on the ignorance of a subset.

Whatever happened to the sanity of the 90's & 2000's where the main gripe about commercialized pop music was that it was terrible/cheesy and lacked originality? lol

Now it's "a symptom of societal decline"?...seems just a tad melodramatic.

Although, in looking through some of this author's other pieces for this publication, they seem to get easily agitated by trivial things that most people wouldn't give a 2nd thought to.
(literally twelve paragraphs of ranting about how he views backing into parking spaces as "geometrically improper"

I kinda want to see someone blast Swift music while backing into the parking space next to him just to watch the meltdown.

He's got a point there.

But this is paralleled elsewhere. Trump is the rise of 'me politics' on the right. Much of his populist appeal is how he validates the forgotten middle-American vs the the coastal elites who shape so much of culture. It really is about "see ME!" to a large extent.

Not to make every single thing about Trump. Its just one really obvious example of much personal neediness drives events and culture in the US.

Reminds me that some of us grew up with HeeHaw, with classics like this:

I don't care for Taylor Swift's music, though I've heard some in the music industry claim that her influence on young people, particularly young women, seems to have resulted in a spike in guitar sales, since she is apparently one of the last celebrities still making hits who can and does pick up a guitar during her concerts and actually play it. That's cool to me, if true. Kids should be encouraged to pick up instruments, rather than just play around on their computers with pre-recorded, pitch-corrected, sound-sampled everything. Playing an instrument is great for physical coordination and dexterity, creativity more generally, and of course for angering John Belushi, and those are all good things from where I'm sitting.

But, yeah, this Federalist whining is very "old man yells at cloud" to me...and I technically am an old man by now, so you'd think I'd be on board, but nope. Too silly.
