He's just mad because Swift is encouraging young people to register to vote, and most of them aren't going to vote Republican. So they are mad, instead of being self-critical and asking why young people wouldn't want to vote for them in the first place.

Yes, I love her for this- getting people involved to perform their civic duty, and this is what David Byrne also has been doing, except with a ton more talent than Swift IMO.

I agree, but apparently he believes that in his experience he knows more about music than the average person, and Swift just does not live up to what he values in music. Of course the societal decline is just a snappy title to draw people in only to realize he really just does not like Swift's music. It is sad that he tries to make a comparison between Swift and the Beatles....IMO the Beatles were the best and few lived up to them. I think the irony of the article is in his characterization of Swift as a narcissist, while exposing some of his own narcissistic tendencies.
