  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

There have always been a few people in my life who would be offended if I got a tatoo. The fist thing that comes to mind when I see someone with a tatoo is that they've been able to get away with a lot in life. I don't see it as a Christian/non-Christian thing as much as a sign of coming from a more liberal social circle.

That said, my personal reason for not getting one is that I'm not sure I'd want something permanent on my skin. At times, I think I'd like one... but I still can't shake that feeling that by the time I'm 40 I'd want it removed. This has nothing to do with my faith, but instead it's a matter of potentially changing tastes.

Up until a few years ago I had never thought that Christians had a problem with tattoo's until I met this one person who thought that they were abusing your body ...

I have one ( very small, in a discreet place, no one can see it unless I'm in a Bikini or something, even then it can be hidden), and I don't think that there is anything wrong with them ... :)

sorry, so it is! on the thumbnail it looks a bit like a tan line!

I think there's something quite cool about butterflies. Sort of like a cheesy christian metaphor. ya know, ugly catipillar, transforms into something beautiful... etc!

I've thought about getting a tattoo...but then again I don't know if I will. I think some look good, but too many are just ugly. From a Biblical view well, us girls pierce our earrings....that is doing something to the body too.....so I'm not sure..

I would totally advise against it. I too thought it would be a good idea to get a Christian tattoo. I was dead wrong. As soon as I got it, I felt like the worse person in the world. It does nothing to glorify God. It was just something I wanted that was of this world. I still regret it to this day, but I am learning to deal with it. Don't make the same mistake.

I'm sorry you regretted your choice :( that is truly a shame...
But I would hasten to say that it is a personal choice that is made. It is not the same for all. But your experience should cause someone who is in that decision-making process to pause and make sure that the issue is one they bathe in prayer and thought.

One thing I don't ever recommend is someone getting a tattoo before the legal age. I wanted one for two years before I got mine and I was over the legal age for those 2 years. IT still took time, waiting, saving, and lots of critical thinking before I got it on my 21st birthday. Don't get a tattoo too young, folks. It could be regretable.

Definately....wait, think, wait, think...and continue until you're sure you're happy with the decision. No one should rush into a tattoo, there's so much to consider.

Personally, I have a Cross, with three arrows that swirl around it and point into the center. On on arrow are the words "Eternal Father" another say "Loving Son" and another says "Faithful Spirit"

I thought long and hard before I got this tattoo. I finally decided to do it because I realized that through baptism I am already marked as Christ's own forever. I saw no problem with having an external bodily representation of that commitment.

Also... tattoos really hurt. (maybe I'm just a wuss but I thought it hurt) The entire time I was getting it I was thinking about how minute this pain was compared to the pain of being nailed to a cross.

Love in Christ,
John

I just went through this in the Ethics forum a few weeks back:

Tattoos and the people who get them...

To sum up my opinion, tattoos are not immoral, but people who get them are highly unoriginal. I highly value originiality and uniqueness, and the body modification form of tattooing has clearly lost its uniqueness since it is common even for grandmothers to have tats. In general, I have more respect for those who like tattoos but decide to go an alternative route (such as branding) to body modifictation instead. I like some tats myself, but I would personally choose to go on the grassy path and be more original :)

As for dating someone with tats-well, they are a turn-off for me.

I finally decided on the Green Lantern emblem.

Interesting-WWE wrestler Gregory Helms has the GL emblem on his right bicep. Another WWE wrestler, Rey Mysterio, has a very intricate and interesting tattoo on his back. It is one of that few tats that I am impressed with!

I do not know of anyone with a tatoo that does not have a story behind what they have.

I do. My little cousin David has a tattoo on his right bicep, and there really is no story behind it. He just got it to get it

I've been avoided this thread BIG TIME! lol :) I've never had a tattoo and for me... I don't plan on getting one... that being said, I don't have a problem with them either for others. I have a lot of friends who have the coolest tattoos. The only thing that I can add here is one word.

OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That being said... cool.
