Switchfoot is a Christian band I just got a copied CD of. I recon they are really cool . In was wondering if any1 else had heard of them and thought they were good 2!

I love Switchfoot!

i really really enjoy switchfoot on their cds. I could never go to one of their concerts because i am sorry to say the lead singer can't sing. Oh well, they make great music, my two favorite songs by them are on fire and amies song.
If you havn't heard of switchfoot yet, you must be living in a hole. jj.

I love this band! My favorite has become "meant to live" but I also like "gone" yet like what wgjones3 has said, it is starting to get tiresome thanks to my radio station who wants to play it all the time. Otherwise, yeah, this band rocks and also gives a good christian message!

My favorite song on "the beautiful letdown" has to be "twenty four". It really speaks to me about living daily by grace.

Actually, they've only done the same thing Amy Grant did for a while. They're on both a Christian and secular label. It's for distribution.

I have a question regarding the latest discussion - Why does a band of Christian guys (who are all very nice, by the way) have to play music with the intent of evangelism? Why can't they simply create quality music?

Honestly? This is one of my pet peeves. People say "That's not Christian" just because the name of Jesus isn't spoken in nearly every line. Yeah, there are instances of straying *TOO* far away, but for the most part this "If you don't say the name Jesus, it isn't Christian" argument doesn't hold water with me. At least the lyrics are edifying and uplifting.

I LOVE SWITCHFOOT!!!!!!!!!!! I love every song on their new cd. Its like my favorite cd. I have no problem Jesus' name isn't spoken every line. I don't see whats wrong with that, they're uplifting songs and they're each different. Total love.

That's not true. Nobody says that you have to name Jesus in every line. But there must be some biblical cause for calling something "Christian." Something is not Christian, just 'cause we say it is. If that were the case, then I could say Marilyn Manson is Christian... just 'cause I said so.

Thanks for stating that there is a point when the songs can get too far from the truth and the Bible that they no longer qualify as "Christian." Again, if you're gonna call it Christian, there must be some biblical reason for doing so.

Okay, well, I guess what bothered me, within the context of this thread, is the implication that (somehow) Switchfoot wasn't a Christian band. All I will say by way of disagreement with the idea that Switdchfoot (and their lyrics) aren't Christian is to ask people to look at miy signature below. Personally? I want to be as on fire for gGod (And Christ) as those lyrics convey.

For what it's worth, I don't think Switchfoot was the particular focus of the argument. In fact, they were either excused or complimented all the way through.

It was more generic in nature. Since this is a Switchfoot thread, however, they served as sort of the "example," along the lines of: Switchfoot reaches thousands of people with their concerts, CDs, and interviews... GIVEN THAT FREEDOM isn't it better, for ANYONE in that situation, to speak a word for Christ, rather than "be positive" (or whatever)...

So you see, Switchfoot is the frame, but I don't think anyone has particularly accused them of anything.

In general, I'd like to finish off with the following and go back to my bass (the instrument, not the fish)

"Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of [their Peers] they would not confess their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue; for they loved praise from men more than praise from God."​

The KJV uses the words "they did not confess him." Too many CCMers use the excuse that a clear profession of faith in Christ will "turn people off" (or similar), but that is what we are all called to do. I betcha these leaders didn't smoke or use curse words either... but God called them to "confess their faith," not just to "be positive".


Pretty sobering comment from the Word of God. From whom do we seek praise?
