  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Schools can do whatever they darn well please... boo frickin hoo. :p

Not if they're public schools.

Anyway, I think this thing is borderline. I can see how it could be OK, and I can see how it could be very bad; we need to know a lot more about the situation.

I don't know about you guys, but by 8th grade my English classes had bascially finished having lessons on Grammer, and sentence structure. By high school it they had become literature courses, our grammer etc was still corrected, but it was done in the form of correcting papers writen on topics.

When you discuss literature, inevitably you discuss ideas. In retrospect, in many ways my later high school English courses had become philosophy courses, not too disimilar to my college philosophy courses (minored in it). In that respect I can see how the movie might be applicable to a literature course, it could be made as a modern equivilant of "Common Sense" or something (just throwing something out there).

I don't see what the big deal is. In my HS english class we watched The Matrix, Monty Python's Search for the Holy Grail, and 13th Warrior. Even wrote a paper over the Matrix. Search for the Holy Grail was a life altering experience and I will be forever greatful to my Sr. English teacher for showing it to me. NEEEE!

Would also like to add that we watched two versions of Macbeth, both R rated. One of them had nudity in the witch scene /shudder.
Man and just think we had to read when I was in school ;)
