  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

stop sinning?

Can one, through Christ, stop sinning completely?

  • Yes...I have the strength for everything through him who empowers me.

  • No...No matter what, we never could.

  • Hmmm...I don't know.

After being on this forum for a few months, i've noticed that there seems to be differences of opinion on the topic of 'ceasing to sin'.

My question is simply: "Do you believe that through Christ one can completely stop sinning while here in the world"?

~peace~
Yes!!

Will we? Probably.
There are too many verses telling us to stop sinning.
Sin is an attitude. A defeated one.
Temptation isn't sin. Jesus was tempted.
When we're tempted God will always provide an escape.
If satan can't kill you he'll settle for you being a defeated believer.
He'll take whatever we allow him to have.

If there is any christian here who believes he does not ever sin and will not ever sin again in this earthly body we have now then let him come forward here and proclaim this to us. I want to hear him speak!

I didn't say that.
What I did say is that I probably would.
But it will probably be an unintentional sin.
Intentional and unintentional sin are not the same. Willful sin must be willfully confessed.
Accepting sin"intentional" as part life only cripples our full potential.
We must not accept it as part of us.
We are no longer slaves to sin. Hebrews chapter 10 convinced me of this.

Ok, I agree with that. I'm glad you and I see it the same way.

Then again the op doesn't ask about intentional sin as opposed to unintentional sin so I just took it as sin. I don't believe God makes a distinction between the two, sin is sin in his eyes no matter whether it's intentional or not.

Do a study on unintentional/intentional sin in the OT. There is a difference.

What is unintentional sin?

ydouxist are you telling me that if we sin but didn't mean it God is going to be blind to that sin? I'm confused here, what am I going to find out in the OT? That God only saw the need to forgive the sins of the people only if they meant to commit those sins? That's news to me!

I admitt that I have sinned sometimes after having received Christ and didn't realize it at first but as soon as it was brought to my attention I did go to the Lord for forgivness.

Jesus and or the Holy Spirit does give us power to avoid sin but because of our sinful natures it's only ineventable that we do from time to time or whatever. Paul said in Romans that he is always at war with the flesh, these are battles that we can win with the help of the Holy Spirit but I don't believe we win them all.

If you don't know it the Holy Spirit will bring it to your attention.

Neph,

Jesus gave us the power to 'avoid' sin?

Or did he give us the power to be free from sin?

Yeah I wrote that funny....The Holy Spirit gives us power to not sin. This to me is the samething as saying God has given us the power to be free from sin.

"So for one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, it is a sin." James 4:17

Sin is disobedience to God's will...the only way to be disobedient is to know that you are...'unintentional' disobedience is not possible.

Neph,

I agree that they are the same thing...

So, are you saying that God didn't give us 'enough' power to not sin?

Ok back to the OP.

I ask again, if there's anyone here that believes he is totally free of sin tell me. I have a few questions for you.
