One of our cats sometimes smells like he took a really awful #2 if you know what I mean. Forgive me for saying that but it is absolutely disgusting. LIke if you hold him, your shirt will smell really awful. We have tried washing him and it goes away for a day but the smell ALWAYS comes back. We clean their litter box daily so it's not because of a dirty littler box. Does anyone know what the problem could be? ANy advice?

We got a kitten about 2 months ago, and she STINKS. Shes the sweetest cat in the world...but the smell is almost unbearable. We clean out the litter box every day as well, so its not that. The smell is coming from her bottom, and I at first suspected it was her anal glands, but no other cat that I have ever seen stinks this bad. She especially stinks whenever I'm petting her and shes sitting in my lap. We've tried everything from giving her a bath to just wiping her bottom with a baby wipe...nothing we have tried has been very effective. It smells like what was described by Belle, poop or pee or something....combined with something else. we have been feeding her Purina Kitten Chow and giving her fish flavored treats (her butt smells kind of like fish) every once and a while. Please help!

Does your cat stink when you pick him up only?? Or can you actually smell him across the room?

My female cat is REALLY timid. If I pick her up when she's not fully prepared for it she'll let this discusting goo-y smelly liquid out her butt... totally disgusting. To make it worse, this 'goo-smell' will not go away unless I have a shower and throw my clothes in the wash. She's done this ever since I got her (about 3 years ago).  She's just a really nervous cat though and the littlest sound will absolutly freak her out--> perhaps this explains your kitty?

wow i have had several cats and never has these problems. i m going with it is something intestinal. Mulutaka ---have you taken your cat to a vet ? that discharge does not sound good to me.

I take her yearly. I've told the vet (two actually--> to get more than one opion) about her, uh, "condition" and he said that she's basically doing her discharge as defense mechanism. The second vet said the same thing too and also mentioned that really nervous/timid cats will do this. I've had her since she was 2 months old and she's done it since then... but I have to stress that she'll only do it when I catch her by surprise or just is fighting to get away from me (she only likes to sit on my lap on *her* timing).

My solution for my own cat is I will only approach her very slowly and only if she's comfortable. Sigh... no more forcing her to cuddle. ;) ^_^
