Hi Eric, how are ya today?

The Car Finale: It can't be fixed. Or, it will cost more to fix it than the car is worth. I basically have to just get used to it not starting every once in a while. The guy showed me the magic spot that makes it start. It's some sort of problem in the steering column. The gear shifter is just worn out and doesn't hit that spot exactly right sometimes. At least he didn't charge me for any labor.

Do you have a handyman as a friend? If you can obtain a new steering wheel assembly from a reputable wrecking yard, this might work. My husband did this with several cars of his and they worked for a few more years.

No, unfortunately I don't know any handyman types. At least none that I am close enough to and familiar enough with to ask them to do something like that.

Maybe you could ask one of the guys if they could show you how to do the job?
There are quite a few female mechanics around.

I bet your son would like to learn.

I think I would need to learn how to change a tire or change the oil before I could endeavor to install a new steering column. ^_^ As long as I can get it started...even if it is with some wiggling and figeting...I'll be ok. I don't plan on having this car for TOO much longer if it is possible. Hopefully next spring I will be able to get smth newer and more reliable. Until then, maybe I will keep a bottle of holy water in the car and sprinkle the steering wheel each time that I go anywhere. :)

Until we got a new washing machine, I milked all the time I could out of that baby.

I kept praying to St. John of Shanghai and San Francisco and he came to my help so many times - I lost count. But that old clunker kept churning for a long time - way past its warranty due to the prayers of St. John.

Not quite, but, uh, close. ;)

Ugh.. sorry to hear about that, Heather. :( It is nice that they didn't charge you anything, and hopefully the "magic spot" will keep working!

As for me, I'm doing good... :)

LOL, I bet. ;) Glad to hear you and the family are doing good, though I wish someone took MOI to Taco Bell... I'm starving. :(
