Oh wow, only the Greeks fast from alcohol on fast days? Hmmmm, maybe I should find the OCA church....

Actually you'll find rather few greek people / spiritual fathers are very strict with the oil & wine (generally alcohol) part of the fast. So don't freak out .

Oh so true!! Just remember you are allowed to say no to avoid temporary (or permanent) insanity. Although my friend who attends a Russian parish says the same thing, perhaps is a pan-Orthodox Epidemic!!

I wish I could just learn greek! I'm half Greek (ethnically at least) and have always attended a predominantly greek speaking parish but it's all fallen on my apparently deaf ears!!

I used to be that way in HS when I had very bad asthma. Watching Saturday Night Live (the Dana Carvey, Mike Meyers, Kevin Nealon and Dennis Miller years) would make me laugh so hard I would need to pull out the proventil inhaler and take a few puffs.
