  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Exiting lurk mode to say that I'm glad all the weird folks are still here. Makes me feel like I stand out less. Jenn's beard looks more natural, Nuttroll is rolling over the top in his barrel, and Matrona... didn't you used to be blond? Some of y'all are strangers to me so far, and I'm not sure if it is better to be weird or a stranger.

I just made pasta salad with vegan mayonnaise and it is deeeelish. I'd dare anybody to tell the difference, and I saved 60 grams of fat that would have been there if I had used regular mayonnaise.

Okay, are you going to share the recipe, or ....

:D I think we have a few cannibals here.
However, you look dressed to fight them all the way.

I changed it to "some"! I left out the ones who still seem the same like you, ChoirFriend and Emmanuel.

I guess no one makes the coffee around here anymore?

Now time to read something more worth while girl :)

CS Lewis is very educational too. He has all kinds of references to the Bible and to history woven throughout his stories in The Chronicles of Narnia.

I purchased a reference book about the Chronicles for my son when he was your age, KoolKat, and my son devoured the books. They are in shreds now.

I would hear a bump in the night, and then go into his bedroom. And he would quickly turn out his flashlight which he had placed under his blankets.

When I pulled the covers away, there was he smiling with a mouth full of cookies and a glass of milk on the bed stand. He had just gotten up for his midnight snack.

yeah Cassc, she reads what she likes very fast ....she is taking after her dad for sure.. I am lacking the concentration to read... ;)

I do the same thing- the closest I ever come to sun burns is when I am sitting on the beach getting lost in a god book, I've gone six hours without getting up to go in the water!

I'm moving this here, as a more appropriate place for booze-talk :p.

Beer brewing goes as far back as ancient Egypt, which last I checked predates ancient Greece.

But isn't it true that Julius Caesar witnessed the Britons drinking a long frothy drink that was unknown to him until then? Surely if it was an egyptian thing he would have known it, you know, getting friendly with Cleopatra and all :p.

But anyway, I won't insist, Bavarialainen ought to know his bier better than Kreikkalainen :).

You ever visited Klosterbrauerei Andechs just at the very end of Munich S-bahn for Weißbier und liebekaese or (forgetting the word, that schwein-leg thing that looks like half a pig & apparently bavarians eat when they want a light breakfast :D)?

"The Way of a Pilgrim" is excellent. I remember reading it when I was young.
However, I would suggest that your daughter read the entire Chronicles of Narnia.

My son learned much about the Christian faith and the parallels drawn from the Scriptures. It became like a scavenger hunt for him. I cannot remember the name of the book, but there was a reference book (dictionary?) that I bought for my son so that he could understand some of the terminology. He used that book and his bible.

By the end of that summer, he had accumulated a wealth of information. In addition, his vocabulary increased dramatically. And then when the Harry Potter books came out, he was totally not interested. He looked and found them to be very boring. Instead he read CS Lewis' Space Trilogy.

He also read many Orthodox books. For example, Introduction to the Orthodox Church by Father Coniaris. And note that he was only 11 going on 12 at that time.
