Phew! I finished my Pascha cheese and tomorrow I'm making Kulich bread. I might try for a little nap now and then I need to run some errands. :)
It's like the final taunt of Lent, fixing food when you're fasting completely... (well, I've had an orange cuz otherwise I would just fall over by 3 pm).

That is akin to medieval torture, isn't it? It is just a total killer to cook food on Holy Saturday that you are going to eat for the Pascha meal, but you can't taste it just yet. A test of your will to fast!

By the way, if anybody knows where I can buy sandals that can take a horrendous amount of abuse (and aren't birkenstocks, those are too expensive) without turning icky, please let me know. :) All the standing and walking I've been doing this week has done a number on my (formerly) nice brown sandals.

Christ was unailed from the cross, wrapped in fresh linen, and buried in the tomb.

I love the fact that people crawl under the tomb. I can't believe some of the old ladies can still do it. I found myself amazed they can get under crawl through and get up on the other side.

Eranan ton Tafon I Mirofori Miran.......

We had a huge turnout tonight. I left just now and there were still people waiting to go under the Epitaphios. From the number of people in the procession, I would say that we had about 800 people this year. Last year we had about the same.

I was one of the ones privileged to carry the tomb during the service tonight.

We didn't have people walk under it, though. We used to, but I don't think we have enough tall people to do that now.

We also used to trade off the Lamentations. This year we all just sang them together and I was so worn out by the end, and from having to sing lower than normal, I barely got through the Evlogetaria. I hope my voice lasts through Pascha!

It stayed away... with a little chemical help... :p Coming back now tho, so I'm going to head to bed... and hope it's gone tomorrow so I can go to DL in the morning. :crosseo:

I cried like a baby during evening services today... Me and Matushka were running for the tissues and in the end she went and grabbed the box and put it between us.

OK, why is it that I miss Kevin at church but outside church I do pretty well??? We don't go together very often, but I start bawling half the time because I miss him at church.

Hi all! I got to carry the Plaschenitsa tonight, and then we went out tomb hopping to about 5-6 local Orthodox Churches. Then I prayed the Psalms before the tomb of Christ for 2 hours. Ok, so I am actually exhausted now! Have a good night, and a great Holy Saturday!

Have you tried eBay? You can usually find Birks for half the price, new in box. I've gotten Birk clogs and Doc Marten mary janes from one seller that's great.

Here I am... guess the headache caught up with me. I'm going to try to take it out now, but that means I won't be doing anything for two hours or so.
Please pray for me, I have to feel better tonight or it will be tough to get through services

Ok, I give up... I'm making Kulich in the breadmachine. Actually, the funny thing is that the little handbook that comes with it has a recipe that says: Russian Kulich! I'll add some cardamon and it will be just the same (and I can sleep for two more hours). ;)
Father is probably going to joke with me and say I'm a 'heretic' but then he'll eat it anyways. :D

The way you cook a food can make you heretical?

I've gotten to be known as the person who makes everything from scratch... But I guess in a way, I dump all the ingredients one by one into the breadmachine... :D
My part of the food spread tonight is Artichoke and Crab dip... directly from Whole Foods. But it's so darn good no one will ever know. :D

Now for: Must keep spoons and fingers away from Pascha cheese... :sorry:

Sorry about your head Jennie. Making Kulich in a BREAD MACHINE!!! Is outrage!!! We got 5 loaves out of our recipe.

Anyhow. Everyone have a Joyful Pasha. I'm leaving for church in about 2 and a half hours. Hope your head is better for tonight Jen-Xen.

Last year I did make it by hand, but I'm willing to sacrifice that for some extra sleep... ^_^
Ingredients are exactly the same, one is just machine made. But yes, TOTAL OUTRAGE!

Whoo, Holy Sat liturgy was a blast. I love the part where bay leaves are thrown everywhere, but the swishing vestments made the priest's microphone start making popping noises. It sounded like he was beatboxing. :D

Holy Saturday is always really special to me because that was when I was baptized, and I can now change my "Years as a Christian" from 2.75 to 3. Hooray!
