Becoming holy like Christ is not for bragging rights...it's to enjoy the life God wants for us on earth like it is in heaven! We are all sinners. That saying "holier than thou" is often a carnal reaction to someone living a holy lifestyle. Confidence does not always equal arrogance. The term "holier than thou" is/was product of selfish ambition/jealousy.
It's likened to someone on a grade school basketball team (flesh), being angry because an NBA player (Spirit) is more effective at shooting the basketball. That NBA player is JESUS, NOT the basketball. We are that basketball. He does all the work.
Matthew 7:6 is a good verse to remember. Let's not compare ourselves to others, but to Christ. If people judge you, love on them!
